New Volkswagen Touran Parks Itself

The new Volkswagen Touran will come with Volkswagen's ParkAssist. It uses sensors in the front and the rear of the car to park itself. The system will park the Touran in only 15 seconds. Just like on the Lexus LS 460. Except the Touran starts at only 20,460 Euros. It will also be available with Volkswagen's innovative 1.4 liter TSI with 140 horsepower.

It is funny how Lexus fans proclaimed Lexus above others luxury cars becasue it had park assist, but now a 20k Volkswagen has it too. Actually the VW version seems to be better as Car and Driver said that the Lexus takes about 25 seconds to park it self.

Sorry for the double posting. I am just saying that the 20-30k VW has the same technology as the flagship Lexus. I remember how the Lexus lovers were praising its technology and how it was way above all others.

Actually, if you read the article carefully, the VW doesn't control the gas for you, which in turn would still be proned to getting into accidents, because the Park Assist feature on the VW is just that, "Park Assist". Although it does control the car for you, it doesn't know how fast or how slow to turn in. Whereas Lexus, it pretty much does everything except brake the car, which in turn would take a few seconds longer because its controlling the speed. My 2 cents.

IMO "park assist" is the most useless feature offered on cars. If you cant park using your common sense/skill, than dont drive.

The Lexus doesn't control the gas either. You have to brake too. I am sure that you won't have to use the gas pedal in the VW either. I don't think that anyone uses their gas pedal while parking.
