The Perfect Plan? Ford To Use Performance To Differentiate Itself From Competition
Germany -- Increased speed and performance is the new mantra at Ford Motor Co. as the company scrambles to differentiate itself from rivals.

"You're going to see a lot more use of the racetrack as our laboratory and test bed," Dave Pericak, head of Ford Performance, told Automotive News last month here at the global launch of the new division's Focus RS hatchback.

Ford Performance was formed at the end of last year by combining Ford's Special Vehicle Team in North America, Team RS in Europe and global Ford Racing operation.

Because I can drive an many as 750 miles a week sometimes, I wanted a cheap, comfortable sedan and I got that in a Fusion SE 2.5 automatic. I compared it with the Sonata, Optima, Malibu, and 200 and chose the Fusion because it has darned good handling and braking.

An AWD Shelby Fusion would be wonderful if the mid-range car is as good as my SE is.

Ford's push to performance is evident in the Mustang because not one level of that model is a penalty box. The 2.3T and the V6 offer two good reasons NOT to buy a 5.0, but the 5.0 is a delight. Factor in the GT350 and GT350R...
