Game Over BMW i8 and Tesla? Audi Launches All-Electric Audi R8 e-Tron With 0-62 MPH in 3.9 Seconds and 276 Mile Range!
All-electric Audi R8 e-tron is a zero-emissions supercar capable of 0-62mph in 3.9 seconds with a 276-mile range

Alongside the V10-powered Audi R8, Audi has also revealed full details on an all-electric, rear-wheel drive version of the R8 at the Geneva Motor Show. Called the R8 e-tron, it uses two electric motors on the rear axle - producing a total of 456bhp and 920Nm.

The real breakthrough for this car is its range; Audi claims it can cover 276-miles between charges (compared to 134-miles for the previous car), and charging it can take as little as two hours using a rapid charging point.

The first R8 e-tron concept appeared in 2009, and was originally slated for a 2013 launch, but the project was canned by Hackenberg’s predecessor Wolfgang Durheimer. Hackenberg revived the project and set a target of at least 400km (250 miles) before it could be sold to the public. Clearly, that target has now been reached.

Tesla is faster but more competition is good for consumers. R8 etron will probably be priced higher than tesla and bmw. The most impressive thing is the 2 hour charging.

Agree. Performance could be better considering what Tesla achieves with its cars but the two hour charge time sounds great. 270 mile range isn't too shabby either. Hope the price isn't ridiculous.

How is it game over when Tesla has more range (Audi is using NEDC like all European companies, not EPA. Telsa has 312 miles range under NEDC), faster to 62mph (Tesla is 3.4 seconds to 62mph, Audi is 3.9 seconds) and Tesla is FAR cheaper and available today.

So who is it game over for? Audi?

Why is it "game over"? Because this is AudiSpies, didn't you know? LOL (and sometimes it's HyundaiSpies or KiaSpies)

Zero Audi's have been reported to have exploded thus far... just saying... we still need to get real numbers.... owners of the i8 are reporting horrible ranges. And as for Tesla the range you are talking is at 55mph in idea condition.... we need a long term test done once this car is out vs. i8 vs Tesla.

@bw5011 - Considering how common car explosions are overall, an Audi explodes every day. Or you mean the so far non-existent electric version?
