Audi Design Boss Lichte: Future A8, A7 and A6 To Be Heavily Influenced BY Prologue Concepts
Marc Lichte took over as head of design at Audi in February 2014, and his influence can be seen already in the brand’s two most recent show cars, the Prologue coupe from Los Angeles and the Prologue Avant that was unveiled at Geneva. In an interview at the latter show, the former VW designer told us what to take away from the new concepts, explained the importance of the next-generation A8, and tipped his hand regarding other future products as well.

The next A8 will be the first car designed from scratch under Lichte. It also will usher in a new era for Audi design. As the chief designer notes, the arrival of what Audi calls its single-frame grille, in 2004, established the current look for the brand. “But after 10 years and after one- or one-and-a-half generations of cars, now is the time do to a bigger step,” he says.

A striking design, clean and crisp in its simplicity but elegant and forward looking. A perfect starting point for Audi.

Agreed! Now if Audi could also revamp the outdated interior designs & get rid of those cheap, horrible looking pop-up navigation screens they will definitely have a potential hit with these next generation of cars.

I'm sorry...perhaps I need my eyes checked, but the only thing striking in that pic is the bridge in the background

The Prologue is deadly boring and in no way is anything new or different from Audi's tired design language.

And the Prologue is heavily influenced by Hyundai, so this idiot Marc could have just said future Audi designs will be heavily influenced by Hyundai.

And isn't THAT an irony?

When will this new design A8 be in showrooms?

Very nice looking evolution of the grill. I like it much better. As for the navi, I believe they will all be moving towards the driver's info screen in front of them like the new TT.

The interior will be completely revamped as well. The below quote from Lichte demonstrates this:

"And it won’t be a new design just for the exterior but for the interior, as well. Again, he directs us to the Prologue for a preview—but we think there are also hints in this future interior shown at CES. There will be “almost no buttons anymore,” he says, “and all the displays are integrated into the architecture.” Even that, however, is only an intermediate step. Looking further into the future, Lichte sees projections eventually replacing screens in automotive interiors: “The technology is there”"
