CAR WARS! Sibling Rivalry Edition: WHICH Porsche 911 Would YOU Have? Carrera S? GTS? GT3?
If you've been a long reader here at AutoSpies, you would know by now that we're pretty big fans of the 911. Especially the latest generation, the 991. Although we know a lot of Porschephiles are in love with the 993 — it is a brilliant Porsche — we just think the 991 is SO much more than that car can ever be.

As we've seen — particularly with the later generations of the 911 — more and more variants get created, we've been wondering: WHICH 911 would most buyers rather have?

Think about it, there's literally a 911 for just about any occasion:

- Carrera (with or without AWD)
- Carrera S (with or without AWD)
- Targa
- GTS (with or without AWD)
- Turbo
- Turbo S
- GT3
- GT3 RS
- And were sure there's more to come...

So, when I recently saw a German publication round up several of the 911 variants I was curious: WHICH version would be the most popular among the Spies? Would YOU rather have a Carrera S, a GTS or a GT3?

Looking forward to seeing your replies!

I would choose the "base" Carrera no AWD if I had to choose. I do not like the 911 because its engine is in the wrong place and it comes with all kinds of expensive Band-Aids to mask the inherent dynamic flaws of its "Super Beetle" layout. Yes, it's a competent vehicle, but the Corvette Stingray is better for less and much better for the same.

That said, the AWD on a 911 makes it numb and--for me--much less engaging. And yes, I have driven both at the track.

That said, if I had to drive a 911 at the track, I'd like a 911S or a 911T from the 60s simply because their unruliness is quite endearing much like a TVR Tuscan or Sagaris is.

For me, though, the Porsche I like best is a tie between the 916-6 or a 944. The former can easily outhandle a 911 of its day and the latter was a car done right.

Make mine a 911 GTS.

This, to me, may be the last great "pure" Porsche.

Rear wheel drive, naturally aspirated, manual gearbox.

I presently have a 2014 GT3, an order for a 2016 GT3 RS and my name is on the waiting list for a GT3 RS Cup (not officially announced yet) so that should take care of the question.

However, if I weren't tracking the car, I would probably go GTS rear drive only. Not only does it have more power but also a better stance, i.e. lower center of gravity. And a much better cost/benefit ratio (within P range, in deference to Matt's comment) than all others except perhaps the GT3. However, the latter creates a number of compromises for everyday use.
