Apple Announces BIG News For CarPlay During Spring Forward Keynote — Finally, It's Gaining Adoption
Announced approximately one year ago, Apple unveiled to the world that it may have a solution for the latest hang ups of using a smartphone within an automobile.

Of course the problem is connectivity between an in-car infotainment display and your handheld device. Via CarPlay, that problem is eliminated as it serves as in-dash smartphone software.

In non-geek terms, this means that a connected device can display a simpler user experience on the auto's infotainment display. Rather than use an automaker's bogus apps and graphical user interface (GUI), you can just use what you've become accustomed to on your phone, which is something most people cannot and will not live without.

Yesterday, during Apple's highly anticipated Spring Forward keynote where the technology company detailed the all-new Apple Watch, CEO Tim Cook revealed that Apple has secured deals with the major automakers to ensure that 40 all-new models will ship with CarPlay by the end of 2015. Considering there's been relative silence on CarPlay for the past 12 months, this is refreshing news to hear.

Perhaps this is the solution to end the frustration of dealing with an iPhone and a fussy in-car infotainment system.

A few years ago, when Apple made the best user interfaces, I was hopeful of the prospect that perhaps someday, car infotainment systems would be designed my Apple. Today, no thanks.

Since iOS 7 showed up, Apple has shown us that it's not the Apple we knew under Steve Jobs. Gone are icons that look textured and three-dimensional. Today's Apple-designed icons are flat, and either monochromatic or using a 1970's color palate. They look pretty much like anyone else's icons. Gone are superb, elegant, intuitive, unambiguaous user interfaces for screens and apps. What we see from Apple today looks and feels pretty much like anyone else's stuff: sparse, half-finished, and rushed. Gone is the refinement and elegance that once made Apple famous and unique.

Oh well. At least their stock price and profits are off the charts. Apple: The New Microsoft.

You know, I have to agree with you on this one.

I held on to iOS6 on my iPhone 5 until this past October because I DESPISE the iconography in 7. As you noted, I just dislike the rather "flat" look.

Unfortunately, for people like trm, Apple is still the only American company that has any chance against the mighty European brands, so people like him would simply just keep buying their garbage and keep telling himself that "Oh Apple is the biggest company in the world and is the most important brand in the world! This will remain to be true forever and ever!!"

As long as there are sheeples like him, Apple, the new M$ will survive. But yes, anyone with brains would know Apple is now nothing but a generic appliance maker. There is nothing status symbol about their junk now.

The Japanese tried to dominate the watch, automobile, fashion, etc markets with their cheap but quality products, but turns out, the Europeans actually still do it better and people actually are willing to pay premium for their products still. This is the power of Europe.

And yet, morons like trm would think "Ohhh Apple can do anything! I bet everyone will want the 17,000 dollar Apple Watch!"

@JDM

Yeah, you just don't get the Apple Watch.

THINK: Apple moved 700MM iPhones.

Assuming that every buyer went through three units and there's a 5 percent take rate on the Apple Watch, it's still a success.

Given how the watch is a remarkable complement to the phone, I think you will be surprised when it takes off. Especially this xmas.

Apple Watch needs...iPhone to even make it function properly.

Apple Watch, is designed like a typical, generic Apple trash.

Apple Watch, starts from 350 dollars. 350 dollars for a watch that looks even worse than a Walmart watch that costs 10 bucks.

I saw the video of Apple Watch and the person showing it was like changing the color of digital clock inside the watch. Ya, as if that is something. That would've been cool to see if we were in 1970's.

And the 17,000 dollar Apple Watch is a joke. Clearly Apple wants to be considered as good as Rolex or Omega. They wish.

And iPhone sells because people need phones, and there are contracts.

However, watches? Especially the watch that looks like a Walmart watch? Let alone for 350 bucks?

Apple does not understand why iPad and iPhone succeeded. They sold because of casual PC users who wanted something kind of looks status-symbol-ish.

But a frigging watch. And now a car. Apple just makes me laugh.
