What were the hottest cars off the lot in August? Hint: One's a Lexus we predicted
The Wall Street Journal is confirming what we told you a few weeks ago that the new Lexus ES is on fire at dealers around the country.

The average time on the lot for the new ES is only 11 days!

Also hot is the Toyota FJ Cruiser with a 12 day visit at dealers before it's gone.

The survey did not show well for U.S. companies as only one American car (Pontiac Solstice) made the top ten.

Most buyers being 56 yrs + seems a little odd buying those tiny types of vehicles.

but check out those BADASS Honda Civics and Fits!!! since it's selling quicker that that 'HOT' ES350 it MUST be better car! ...ok, sarcasm over.

of course the ES is going to sell fast, it's only been out for 3 months. i think it's remarkable that a Honda Civic that's been out for a year is #2 on that list. THAT, to me, says something.

also something of note, it says the most traded in model is the ES-series of cars. hmm...

Did anyone notice this?

Under the Lexus ES is the Toyota Camry. Oh the irony! :p

Just teasing. Platform sharing isn't as bad as some people like to claim.

OK guys,

I am back from the dead to simplify the - as it seems - complicated article for some.

The statistics underneath the picture and HEADING for the ES 350 only applies to the ES 350, ie. demographics, etc.

Even think about it this way: Would finding out the overall demographics of car buyers buying cars ranging from the Yaris to the C70 Volvo tell you anything?

(I hope you answer no)

The most traded in car (ES) refers to the car that is most traded in for the ES 350. Basically, the whole left side is a spotlight on the ES.

Lexus ES. Camry. So what? What is the "burn" that you are laying on here? That they are the EXACT same car and people are (once again) idiots for buying an ES?

Are they the exact same car?

Or is there a possibly difference? Of leather quality? Of wood quality? Of stereo quality? Of paint quality? Of size? Of options like a panorama moonroof? Of dealership network? Of service experience? Of overall gestalt and feel?

In a world where a few Porsche options can cost over $20,000, is it possible these differences between the ES and the Camry are worth up to $10,000 more to some people?

So, once again I ask. Where is the "burn" over linking the ES and the Camry? Just let it go and be intelligent!

this news isn't that surprising, especially for Lexus fans. Critics of Lexus have always said if their styling ever improved to the level of their legendary quality/reliability, Lexus could achieve even greater sales than before. The results are definitely showing, from the new IS, GS, and the soon to be released LS.
This new ES is a definite step apart in styling from previous ES models. As a matter of fact, regarding cars, the SC is the only Lexus model that has not yet had a total redesign.
Photos of cars of generally don't do justice to them. There have been many cases where I saw cars in photos, was unimpressed, then completely changed my view once I saw them in person. The ES was a good example.

this ad really doesn't tell you crap about sales, as in which car sells the most units(being HOT). it just shows that these particular vehicles are hard to keep in stock. this can be from all kinds of reasons like: lack of enough dealers, lack of supply due to decreased production or recalls, or even yes the car is just that damn popular. also dallas noted the es is popular cause its only been out for 3 mos. however the note in the lower right hand corner says only cars that have been in sales for more than 4 months or more were included.

Seeing the ES in person is totally different that a picture. The car is amazing. Believe it or not, the ES looks aggressive in person. I would even go as far to say that the ES is actually in the same class as the 5series, even though some people assume that its in the category of the 3series b/c of the similarities in price.

Anyway, I've witnessed first-hand why this car is so hot.

Remember it doesn't include cars on the market for less than four months. The ES does look good.

JUGNU-

Please, please, please... never, ever, ever call the Lexus ES350 sexy AGAIN! It might be the Lexus that's furthest from "sexy" in their lineup. The Camry it's cousins with doesn't even know the meaning of the word.

It's for old people. Haven't you realized that? It's like an Avalon, but smaller; it's Lexus's Buick. There's nothing wrong with that, but that's the only reason it's selling well. If they positioned the ES as their sporty sedan, they would sell about 2 a month.

JUGNU is overly-bias towards Toyota, which is why he would consider any Lexus product 'sexy', when most enthusiasts would call the ES ugly and fat.

He also has the nerve to criticize Porsche as being 'money hungry'. And why did you think Toyota commissioned the ES when they already had the IS?

Gee, I bet they did it just for the hell of it....

well for the sake of argument and with prob 3/4 of purchasers being over the hill, lets stop comparing the styling of this vehicle to luxury sports sedans, and put it in a new class called luxury old people cars. so we have the es, deville, town car, etc. then i think this car would hold the title for being the "sexiest" car in its class. not because it is sexy, but because it takes last place in the ugly contest. its like why people voted for bush.

Sorry Lexus fans, the ES is one of the ugliest Lexus' out there together with the SC430 and every Lexus SUV. The GS, IS and LS look decent, but the ES is fat and simply hideous. Boring too.

Thank you!

JUGNU you're an idiot! A4, A8 fat? They're both skinnier than their Lexus competitors! And ESPECIALLY the A6! The GS looks like a beached-whale sedan, while the R-Class is simply a beached whale!

A3 is fat? Want to come say that to my face? It weighs less than every single Lexus model on sale today.

S-Class, 7 Series: gorgeous and contemporary (as well as A8).

LS460: bland, derivative.

The GS is still the ugliest Lexus, but the ES is the farthest from sexy.

R u blind.I didn't said A8.Read once again.
And WILL said it right,A6 is the closest car to be called a whale, a pig.

And not the Gorgious GS.

A4's rear especially the rear lights looks like a direct lift from the last generation Honda Civic.

A3 is just a ball,a round shape,a potato.
A rebadge golf.

don't want to start an argunent with a fool and biass ignorant like u.

JUGNU,

You are the most biased here. You only ever praise Lexus and Toyota, You think the ES is sexy, you think the GS is gorgeous, when automotive critics around the world disagree with you.

Lexus could bring out anything and you would make up reasons on why it is so great.

The A3 looks nothing like a Potato. (Potato? What?).

And calling the A3 a re-badged Golf without mentioning the ES is a re-badged Camry?

The Golf is a much better car than the Camry, it handles better and feels more stable at speed. It is made for fast German highways and is undoubtedly better to drive than a Camry.

Stop calling everyone fools. What makes you such an expert?

Not like me to stoop to those lows, but JUGNU made me bring that up.

He referred to the Audi A3 as a Golf-based Potato.

I for one hope he finds the help he needs.
