Red Bull Threatens To Throw Toys On The Floor And Leave Formula 1 For Good

Red Bull Red Bull motorsport advisor Helmut Marko has warned that the Austrian firm could pull out of Formula 1, claiming that the current regulations "will kill the sport".

Four-time world championship-winning outfit Red Bull endured a tough weekend in the season-opening Australian Grand Prix, with Daniel Ricciardo coming home a distant sixth and Daniil Kvyat's car failing before the start.

Its team boss Christian Horner claimed after the race that F1 chiefs should consider taking action to equalise the performance of the current engines, and Marko said that Red Bull owner Dietrich Mateschitz could lose interest in the sport.

"We will evaluate the situation again [in the summer] as every year and look into costs and revenues," Marko told Austrian media in Melbourne.

"If we are totally dissatisfied we could contemplate an F1 exit.

I agree with them, new rules are too complicated so they should get out of F1 if their engineers are not able to understand the rules and leave the F1 for those who understand the technologies and the rules.

I wouldn't read too much into this. In prior years Catherham, Ferrari and Mercedes have all threatened to leave Formula 1.

Red Bull's issue is with Renault engine. Way down on power compared to MB and now it also seems with Ferrari. It is going to get boring quickly this season if Hamilton runs away with points lead.

This. F1 wants a competitive series or why should I tune in....winning by a second an a half. In F1 that isn't even close. Hamilton could have won by a lot more but he was just cruising (at 300km/h!) to the victory.

I think it has 100% to do with the team actually getting worse. They were a fun "outsider" team when they were wining but they quickly soured. The new engines do sound terrible on TV. I find it interesting how hard Infiniti tried to sponsor/claim the team when there aren't really any Infiniti parts on it even if you can basically say that Renault and Infiniti are interchangeable. Still, I think it's almost funny how harsh they have been with their long term partner. Like in other sports you will have disparity when you don't have a spec racing series.
