Google Preparing Massive Push To Market Driverless Cars By 2020

After six years of work and some concerns from the public, Google is pushing even harder for its driverless cars to become reality, and now insists they will be on the road within five years.

Chris Urmson, director of Google’s self driving car project, has stated the technology will be not only widespread but also relatively standard by 2020. Unlike the semi-autonomous cars being developed by automakers, Google’s vehicles will have no steering wheel whatsoever, being controlled exclusively by computer.

As long as we still have a choice, cool.
As long as there isn't discrimination again drivers, cool. (e.g., higher insurance premiums for drivers; autonomous-only car for everyone over 75 years of age.)

Personally, I'm not fond of cars that can ONLY be driven by computer, as Google proposes. I'm not fond of a nanny state, or someone who believes their choices for me are better or more valid than my choices for me.

This solution is perfect for the aging (bad driving) baby boomers once they turn 80. Seriously, do you want your 85 year old grandmother driving? She'd be happier in a nanny car, and so would every pedestrian and street vendor out there.
