STUD OR DUD? Lexus Comes Clean And Says Swoopy 2016 RX Will Be At 2015 New York Auto Show

After some renders and rumors saying that the new Lexus RX will face the music at the Detroit Auto Show - which didn’t happen, by the way - Lexus are finally telling us that the SUV will make an official debut at the 2015 NYIAS. And they also have a picture to back that up with.

We’ll settle for calling that a picture for now, but from where we’re standing it looks like just another obscure rendering showing the side of the car and its right side taillights. We’ll put that aside for now, as it doesn’t reveal much but as usual, there’s plenty of speculation to be done on styling cues.

That video reminds me of the old Infiniti commercials that had images of forests and streams, but no car. It left viewers wondering WTF? It did nothing to increase car sales, but the popularity of forests and streams increased marginally.

Lexus' two most successful models, the RX and ES, are their most conservatively designed products. So, it will be interesting to see the official product here. If Lexus goes too far to the left, it could really have an impact on sales.

With a older demographic, Lexus has to be bold. Just like Cadillac 15 years ago.

They probably should have kept the RX as is to keep that demographic and introduced an "FX" kind of like the relationship between the X5 and the X6.

To be honest I was skeptical of the NX but I've seen a few in real life and it's pretty cool in real life and very different than almost everything else on the road today. If this is a little bit tamer it could be the perfect compbination of standing out but with a bit more restraint.

Japan Jr. is probably already got the notepad out ready to unleash their revolutionary design next year, just as soon as Japan Sr shows them what it is.

Ignoring Japan Jr. already introduced chrome going through C pillars before Lexus though. Also ignoring Japan Jr's Kia Kee concept had it's signature grille before the 2015 Impala Eco and 2016 Ford F150 and had Lexus copied Kia's signature grille and turned it sidways.

Also ignoring Chevy's Soul rival side profile ripped off the 2006 Kia Soul's side profile.

Lastly, ignroing the redesigned Chrysler Logo ripped off Kia's signature grille which was first introduced on the 2007 Kia Kee. But don't bring that up. Or bring up how Ford Jr. Chrsyler 200 ripped off the Fusion and Avlaon and Infinti M and Nissan Altima. The Sr. of that greenhouse is Audi A6/A7.

Theres a clearer picture on the Lexus website. Looks like that rear panel is inspired by the new Murano. eek

You are tripping if you think the new Murano is "eek." That should win "Red Dot" design award. That's one of the very few designs that I can't tell you what it ripped off of because it's orginal and stylish.

No one is going to bring up the Sonata tail lights huh? If the Sonata came out after the Lexus than the Hyundai would be accused of copying..right Hughjazz? That's why the Mazda 6 and Lexus ES got away from ripping off Sonata backend. Yet the 2011 Sonta was accused of copying Audi's backend. Pretending the Lexus and Mazda didn't ripping of "Sr. Audi's" tradmark as well.
