#NYIAS: Infinti QX50 NY-Bound, But Does This REALLY Have The Chutzpah To Take On The Big Guns?

#NYIAS: Infinti QX50 NY-Bound, But Does This REALLY Have The Chutzpah To Take On The Big Guns?
In an invitation distributed to members of the press today, Infiniti made the announcement that the 2015 New York Auto Show (NYIAS) will see the debut of the all-new QX50 sport-utility vehicle.

If you're still not familiar with Infiniti's nomenclature, this is the latest revision of the very old and very stagnant EX model. It is not without updates though. According to the press release, the vehicle has an adjusted ride height, has gained three inches in its wheelbase and the typical modifications one would expect of a refreshed model — updated front/rear clips and headlights/taillights.

Considering this segment is busier than ever, we would have hoped for a more genuine effort but if you're looking for that, you can take a peek at the all-new QX30 that will be present in production form. It is set to arrive in Infiniti showrooms in the beginning of 2016.

Below, I've attached images of the Chinese market QX50 LWB that sounds very familiar to what we'll see in New York!

At the 2015 New York International Auto Show, Infiniti will unveil the 2016 QX50. As one of the first personal crossovers ?– now one of the fastest growing segments ?– the updated QX50 has a wheelbase increase of more than three inches, creating additional rear legroom and interior volume. On sale this fall, the QX50 also has new front and rear fascias, wheels, side sills, as well as a slightly higher ride stance. We?’ll also have the North American debut of the
QX30 Concept, a preview of a new premium compact crossover that will be in Infiniti showrooms early next year.

I think this one just might sell (based on these pics alone)! Its exterior styling is one of Infiniti's least weird ones. Aside from the buggy looking tail lights, I'd say it's an all 'round decent looking vehicle, and the trick color will surely attract some folks.

I'm not even sure what Infiniti is anymore. This just feels like another lazy effort on their part, just like adding the LWB model to the M lineup instead of a total redesign or undiscontinuing the G sedan and selling as the Q40 so they have a entry-level model.

The QX50's design has been around for 8 years already and they just redesign the front and rear fascias and add 3 inches to the wheelbase? Infiniti sold a total of 2700 of these in the US last year, do they really think this will change that?

Completely agree... what is the purpose of this vehicle? Its a weird product...

No, it doesn't. And that purple paint is ridiculous. This is barely a move in any direction at all for Infiniti, and I don't see how they feel good about their current state of things.

I do not see Barney purple making a comeback on cars. Reminds me of the 90s Civics

This is the Chinese market design...not the revised design that will be sold in the US. This design only has an extended wheelbase and a slightly different front end than the current US design. The US design will have new front and rear designs, as well as the extended wheelbase, new side panel design, and increased ride height. Once again, AS jumps the gun on the discussion by presenting images that do not support the article.

Greenhouses: Mazda CX-5, Infinti QX50 and 2009 Suburu Impraza hatch.

If only it could be seen if it had a Kia badge placed on it.
