Next Gen A4 Images Leaked - Is Audi Replacing Lexus As King Of Boring And Predictable Designs?

A few images with the new generation of the Audi A4 have emerged and they are revealing part of its front fascia and the interior design.

Audi’s answer to the BMW 3-Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Jaguar XF or Cadillac ATS, amongst others, is called the A4 and it has been around for quite a few years now. Happily, the German based automaker is currently working on a new generation and this has been spotted testing several times. The newest images with the 2016 Audi A4, which have ended up on the web, are showing the model without camouflage and they are revealing the aggressive design for the headlights, with LED turning signals and daytime running lights, the larger and sharper radiator grille and the more muscular hood.

Not digging that headlight design at all. Interior looks nice, possibly the best one of new Audi interiors as of recent. Will be interesting to see the final product.

Is it just me, or is the dashboard looking more BMW-esque?

Like cidflekken, I'm not diggin' the headlights. Or the front end in general. It just looks like a slight variation to what we've already seen for years, and to my eyes, it's not a positive contribution.

Audi is taking so long with this car, they better deliver! It's usually not a good idea to make judgement on spy photos, but I see nothing to get excited about. I'm sure the quality of material will be top notch, but I'm not digging the styling. The new C class interior will still be the one to get (my opinion, of course)

This really doesn't tell us much. We need to wait until the car is officially unveiled by Audi.

What do you mean "replacing"? Audi has been the POSTER CHILD for boring for the past 15-20 years, the venerable "bar of soap". Fancy headlight graphics do not pass as grand or innovative design statements.

Why does Audi continue to put the MMI controls behind the gear selector? Looks awkward to reach. Agree with the poor headlight design. Looks like it is a Toyota clone. Not good. And these comments are coming from someone who has had 5 Audis In a row.

My current Audi Avant is my 9th Audi and I totally agree with you, jeffgall. There are only a certain number of times you can dress up or reconfigure headlamps and taillights before even the truest fanboys start looking at other brands. I'm looking . . .

After 3 A4s (the last 2 being the current generation), late last year, I started to look at BMWs as an alternative. The interiors of the 3 and 5 really turned me off and the sales staff was even worse. Audi's interior quality and ease of the sales transaction put me right into an A6.

Can't tell enough yet. I like the interior ok though… seems pretty nice even if they took a few ideas from the last 3 series.

The VW Group will always keep changes to the highly profitable A4 minimal. (Big Changes = Massive Costs).

Higher up in the Audi line, the VW underpinnings are less evident. But the A3/A4 will always be stylized VWs ... or they aren't going to generate the big cash.

They will never be allowed to stray from the VWs they are based on. Hence, the changes will always be minimal.

The A4 is not based on a specific VW model. It's that VW uses the SAME PLATFORM and underpinnings for many different Audi and VW vehicles.

In other words, the A4's roots are not unique to Audi... they are a platform used by Volkswagen for many different cars (including VW's).

See Wikipedia: Volkswagen Group MLB platform

I'm sorry, please tell me which VW uses the MLB platform...or to quote your Wikipedia source..

"It was developed by Audi and first introduced on in 2007 on the Audi A5 then, chronologically, on the Audi A4, Audi Q5, Audi A8, Audi A7, Audi A6, Porsche Macan and the second generation Audi Q7 (MLB 2)[1]. As of 2015, only Audi and Porsche are using the MLB platform."

SO looks like just the Macan (based on Q5) is the only non-Audi to use it.
