Honda plans for Civic Type R don't include U.S. sales

Honda has released official photographs of the Civic Type R three-door hatch that will make its global debut later this month at the Paris Motor Show. Sales begin in Europe in 2007.

American Honda officials say the company has no plans to import the pocket rocket special to the United States. But sources indicate a final decision on U.S. sales may still be subject of discussions within the company.

There will be different levels of equipment available, ranging from a fully equipped car to one that even has the rear parcel shelf removed.

The new Type R continues to be powered by a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter DOHC i-VTEC engine producing 198 hp at 8000 rpm, similar to the previous model which topped out at 197 hp at 7400 rpm. The revised engine is smoother and more responsive, Honda says, due to a new balance shaft and drive-by-wire throttle.

There never has been or will be the TYPE R Civic in the states. Unless you ship it here yourself. They always keep the good sh*t for themselves like the Skyline.

The closest thing to it that we got here was the old Integra Type R, which was the Honda Integra Type R in Europe.
The U.S gets the 2 door coupe Civic that the Europeans do not get and they get the hatchback that we do not get here.

on a side note:

Type R just means Type RICE to me these days.

Although i fully understand that Type R cars are definitely great, the Type-R logo has been mis used by the typical ricer gang. Hence the reasons why we have TYPE-S now.

anyway, that has no relevancy to any of this. I love this Hatchback! the first Honda i've liked since my 99 Civic SI

I support Honda's decision on choosing not to bring the Type-R overhere, because we Americans are too quick to change our mind. We are blessed with great cars we only appreciate them for a year or two. That is why BMW keep selling us those plastics instead of the good things we used to get from them. The best Bimmer I have ever owned is 1989 blk-on-blk 535i with manual Trans. That car was bullet proof. And the body was like a tank. That car contributed in saving my life on the P/Parkway.

I dont get it. Don't we already have the Si? Besides the body style there is no difference between the two. Are those out there complaining we don't have a Type R because they want this hatchback version rather than the coupe and proposed sedan version coming out soon?

When is Honda going to make an engine that doesn't need to be redlined to get decent torque and HP? Once they fix that issue, I'll look at Hondas.
