#NYIAS: STUD or DUD — Weigh In! Is Chevrolet's Ninth Generation Malibu Going To Give Its Competition A Tough Time?
Leading up to today, I want to think that people were excited to see the all-new, ninth generation Chevrolet Malibu. For General Motors' Chevrolet division, this is an opportunity to make up for the eighth generation car that really was dreadful.

At the moment though, it's hard to get an accurate temperature on how people actually feel about the all-new Malibu's design.

Although it may technically be an evolution, to me it's more of an evolution. That's because instead of utilizing a safe design, the company clearly took a bit of a chance, especially when it comes to the Malibu's all-new front end. That fascia is something else. In addition, on the inside the car features an all-new design on the inside.

All that said, I wanted to try and keep this as "middle of the road" as possible. So, what do YOU think in terms of design?

Is the all-new, 2016 Chevrolet Malibu a STUD or DUD?

It's a better looking car, but it'll compete with the Sonatas and 200s for sales, between the 10k-15k monthly output level. I don't think it'll challenge the Camry/Accord/Fusion/Altima strangehold at the top of the sales charts.

I find it incredibly ugly, would rather look at a Mazda 6.

Its a great looking car. The interior I wish had more pizzazz but at this price point I imagine its quite competitive. It should pick up sales but will it hit the Accord numbers... isn't Honda working on an upgraded Accord for release in 2017? Watched Auto Week last night and they rated the top 10 mid sized cars with the Camry last, Altima 2nd to last, and the current Malibu I think at 5. If this car is superior and it looks great, they need to get the marketing right!

Looks like Toyota finally fired their horrible design team.

Assuming that the lack of interior space has been fixed - and the car is priced in line with the competition - the sheer marketing power of GM and its dealers will sell a LOT of these cars. It will probably return to the numbers that the generation of Malibus before the current ones has - which were in the 20,000/month range. However - GM will also have a New Chevy Cruze to sell at about the same time. So - there will be competition for sales right on their own sales floors.

Looks competitive. I agree about interior space. The Malibu has always seemed like a big car with a small interior. Hopefully that's been fixed in this generation.

The Malibu design looks like something that will get outdated within 6 months.

While it's no longer a Malipoop, the design is derivative--no doubt dictated by the wind tunnel--and the nose is simply hideous to hell and back. Sales will increase, but there will still be money on the hood.

That said, this is one more vehicle that makes the Passat look dowdy and passe.

Ok outside, horrible inside, but no worries cuz you'll have it rented for 3 or 4 days only.
