#NYIAS: 00R May Have Just Fallen In Love After Seeing The All-New Porsche Boxster Spyder, In REAL LIFE
It's not very often, but it happens sometimes. I can be swooned by an automobile.
The latest to do so isn't a supercar like a McLaren 650S Spider or something in that league. It's actually the all-new, second-gen Porsche Boxster Spyder. A lot of it, if I am honest, has to do with the first-gen Boxster Spyder I had the chance to drive years ago.

Essentially, it's a vehicle built for "all or nothing" enthusiasts that want to drive not necessarily the fastest but have the MOST possible fun behind a steering wheel. The top comes off, the second-gen car is only equipped with a standard transmission and I am sure its six-cylinder motor will sing through its sport exhaust.
Because the first-gen Boxster Spyder was SO well balanced, you can pretty much drive it at 10/10ths, everywhere. I expect more of the same in the all-new Boxster Spyder just it will feature a 3.8-liter motor and have those gorgeous 918 carbon fiber-backed seats.

The face is odd. The slit at the base of the hood is just strange. Yes, Porsche will sell every one they can build. Yawn.

You mean the same hood slit that first appeared on the 2005 GT3 RS and has been on every GT3, GT3 RS, GT2, and GT4 ever since? It is an elegant solution to moving more air over the radiators and oil coolers while adding more down force. Just a different approach rather than taking front trunk space away by cutting enormous holes in the front hood (Ford GT, Noble, Lotus), or the new Corvette Stingray adding a bank of large bank slits 1/3 the way up the hood.

The Boxster has always been a winning design, and destined to become a classic, like the 911. I do prefer the previous generation's headlights, though.

Agent OOR - not only does sing though that sport exhaust, it also snaps, crackles, and pops as you downshift. If you engage sport plus, it also farts.

Agent OOR - Any word on the weight or suspension used? Hopefully it will be similar to the Cayman GT4 with the adjustable coilovers, GT3 control arms (including the camber shimmable lowers), and the adjustable sway bars?
Last time around, the Boxster Spyder was faster around most tracks than the Cayman R, I doubt Porsche will repeat this mistake.

If I didn't love my Cayman S so much, I would have traded it in for this new Spyder in a split second.

I traded a R8 V10+ for a 991 Turbo S. After one extended drive in a Cayman GTS (manual trans, X73 suspension, etc), good bye Turbo. The Cayman GTS is the best (as well as least expensive and slowest) car I've owned in the past decade. I would never give up the CGTS for the Boxster Spyder, so I'm doing the obvious - gonna own both.
