Mercedes-Benz Planning To Launch Panamera And TT Rivals?
Mercedes-Benz is considering launching rivals to the Audi TT sports car and Porsche Panamera sedan as the automaker expands its lineup to boost sales volume, a German auto magazine said.

The two cars would be developed by the brand's AMG performance division, auto motor und sport reported.

Mercedes called the report "speculation" and declined to comment further.

Lordy! Developing a TT competitor makes ZERO sense give the TT's nonexistent sales. I thought the CLS was their "Panamera".

Isn't the SLK a TT competitor?

The TT on sale in the US is out of production, can't sell something that you aren't even producing anymore. There is more to the world outside of Bakersfield, the TT is actually the best selling sports car in Germany (that one country that's home of Audi, BMW and Mercedes) by a wide margin and I would follow the story is the same in other European countries and a few other places in the world. A CLA two door coupe along the lines of the TT wouldn't be that far fetched.

Good on them! As much as some people hate the Panamera, I love it. And Porsche's sales are indicating it's a keeper. The whole concept is: how much sports car can you pack into a sedan.

I give loads of credit to Porsche for their styling and designs. They have always retained the iconic 911 name and basic form, and yet, they continue to keep updating it so it always looks timeless yet contemporary and fresh, and distinct, unlike anything else in the crowd! They've taken these principles and applied it to their winning SUVs, and then to the Panamera sedan. You can see the strong (and attractive) family resemblance across the brand, and yet they don't look "all the same".

I hear Porsche's new advertising slogan is "Porsche...the builder of Germany's finest caricatures on wheels."

Despite the CLA's limited utility, it's been a crazy success story, so maybe that is encouraging Mercedes to create more FWD-based cars that offer a very niche, stylish entry point for the brand. It will probably be more appealing outside NA, though. And they'd have to be careful not to encroach on the SLK, possibly moving that car a bit upmarket.

Regarding the Panamera competitor, a sport-focused sedan built by AMG might have an interesting place in the market. Kind of like a 4-door AMG-GT. Not sure it's needed, but it would likely be a light, powerful, less-luxurious car compared to the CLS and S.

I believe it has to be just badge whores that fall for the CLA, I seriously feel sorry for them, anyone with any sense of a good vehicle would steer clear of a CLA

Especially given its Renault origins...
