#NYIAS: Alfa Romeo Confirms New SUV And Sedan Are Coming To US Market
After the 4C Spider goes on sale in the U.S. this summer, Alfa Romeo will begin to flesh out its lineup with a new sedan and SUV by the first quarter of 2017.

Reid Bigland, head of the Alfa Romeo brand in North America, says that Alfa’s new D-segment sedan will be revealed in Milan, Italy, on June 24 and go on sale in the U.S. in the first quarter next year. The still-unnamed sedan has been referred to as the Giulia, but Bigland said the name was still being hashed out.

He also declined to discuss powertrain or equipment specifics about the car, but said its performance would exceed segment rivals such as the BMW 3 series, Mercedes-Benz C class and Audi A4.

“I’m confident that it’s going to blow your Italian socks off when you look at the specifications associated with this vehicle,” Bigland said in an interview Thursday.

Having Alfa Romeo AND Maserati target the Germans is DUMB. Chrysler is a bread and butter division. Dodge and Alfa Romeo should be near-premium "All American" and "All Italian" respectfully with Maserati as the BMW/Mercedes brand.

Alfa Romeo as an Italian Subaru makes great sense. An Italian "WRX" would be a delight.

Associating Alfa Romeo with Chrysler would be a HUGE mistake. Reid Bigland has the correct strategy here positioning Alfa within the same segment as
their German counterparts.

Clue in! Chrysler is now ENTRY LEVEL not near-premium. Aiming Alfa Romeo and Maserati BOTH at BMW/Mercedes with numerous overlapping products is dumb as bricks. Making Alfa Romeo an attainable, near-premium would then create a pathway to moving up to Maserati. The current moronic plan means that not only will Alfa Romeo and Maserati compete against the Germans; they will also compete AGAINST EACH OTHER.

I don't think that is the case - especially when you consider that Ferrari is also in the mix
So far - Maserati has stayed in larger size cars than the 3 series - but in LUXURY sedans. The Alfa could exist with small sport cars - up to the 3 series size and not compete with Maserati.
