Auto Express: Pre-Production 2016 Audi Q7 Test Drive! The New Q7 Is a Technological Tour De Force!
Reassuring, isn’t it, that while most Audi Q7s won’t see anything rougher than a speed bump on the school run, it’s tested to withstand some of the Earth’s harshest environments. From thirty below zero in the Arctic Circle to searing temperatures in the desert, the new Q7 needs to cope with them all.

As if to prove a point, Audi has brought us to the middle of the Namibian desert in southern Africa for a final sign-off drive in the all-new Q7 before it arrives in UK showrooms this summer.

The cars are pre-production models, but the fit and finish are already impeccable, and we’re putting them through their paces on 300 miles of gravel roads, winding mountain tracks and sand dunes. If it works here, we’re pretty sure it can handle your commute.

Yeah, it's a "Technological Tour De Force", but it looks like a station wagon.

Personally, if you give me the choice of fewer defects, now and in the future, I'll take that over tech abundance. In time, we'll see if more technology translates into more value for the customer, or more things that break and need lots of moolah to fix.

Almost every car these cars is a technological marvel. At the end of the day, it's a fancy, bloated station wagon and looks exactly so. And I can't help but smirk at the "impeccably" finished cabin comment and think about how my 3-year old Audi literally sounds like it's ready to fall apart and getting worse by the day.

May not be pretty but it surely will be good. BTW, my 6 year old Audi is still as tight as the day I bought it. I suppose quality may vary from model to model.

Yes please, I would like to add another cell plan for my wagon.

I believe scenicbyway12 is referring to the several thousand dollar Audi factory Navigation system, which is based on Google Maps, and requires a monthly cellular data subscription (like a cell phone) to access and receive the map and traffic data on an ongoing basis.

Personally, I chose to keep my Garmin GPS with lifetime free map and traffic updates. My "flagship" Garmin unit cost me 1/8 of the Audi option, and it does the job very nicely, with no costs beyond the purchase price.

My A6 was impeccably finished too and remained that way throughout its life. It was everything in the engine bay that would break constantly. This is the car you want to buy the extended maintenance agreement on!

The new Q7 looks distinctly OLD. Very tiresome appearance.
