#NYIAS: A FIRST! Volkswagen Of America Gives The People What They Want With The Golf Sportwagen Alltrack
While there were plenty of crazy reveals at the 2015 New York Auto Show (NYIAS), there were some realistic cars on display as well. It wasn't all McLarens, Aston Martins and the like.

Volkswagen of America (VWoA) has seemingly decided to start pulling through for its customers. How do I know this? Well, first off the Golf R finally has nearly 300 horsepower. Secondly, the Golf Sportwagen Alltrack exists and will make it to the States.

For those of you saying "So, what?" you have to keep in mind that VWoA operates in mysterious ways. Vehicles that many have expressed deep interest in owning don't get shipped or the North American market gets gypped when it comes to certain specific equipment.

So, to get an all-wheel drive Golf Sportwagen is a big deal. I recall a user saying in the last post something to the effect of "now throw in a manual." I wouldn't hold your breath as that's taking niche to another level.

Finally something to compete with the Subaru Outback! ... I would still choose the Outback 100% of the time because with VW you're just paying more for less.

What a great product! VW is going to sell a ton of these. Why would anybody buy an Outback now? Why would anybody buy an Audi A4 AllTrak now?

It is going to have very broad appeal..from Utah/Vermont tree-huggers; to urban, outdoorsy, yuppies; to aspirational "Euro-Phile" suburbanites who don't like their minivan but haven't found anything else to buy since Volvo stopping making the "CrossCountry".

They are going to sell a gazillion! Way to go VW.

Yes, this is what is going to get VW out of trouble. Way to go VW! You solved your problem with this stretched Golf. Yay!

Unless the rear seats recline, it won't sell as well. I have the Sportwagen, love the drive, but my kids need to recline for longer trips so I'm looking to replace it with the Outback for that very reason.

At a price $15K higher that any sane person would pay.

Well it's on positive in a sea of negatives for VW. They have a long way to go before they are a success in the USA.
