Redneck: (noun) A slang term used to refer to a person who has a conspicuous lack of sophistication.

Sometimes, it's funny (Blue Collar Comedy Tour)

Sometimes, it's not, even when wrapped with flowery language (Jeremy Clarkson).

To *me*, Clarkson has let us know who he is through his lengthy pattern of racial, homophobic, and socio-economic slurs (e.g., when talking about truck drivers, "...it's all so complicated: change gears, change gears, change gears, murder a prostitute, change gears, murder...") as well as his violence. I can't respect the man, even though he is idolized by many.

It just shows if you are rich enough and white enough, you can be an arrogant asshole and a criminal and walk way scot-free with a wealth of admirers.

So I take it you have no problem keeping employees around who physically assault other people as long as they're making you money. Nice.

@runninglogan1 So I take it that you're 100% blind to the fact that BBC are a bunch of hypocrites given that they have profited bit time from Clarkson's controversies and done NOTHING and then out of nowhere they decide to suddenly do something. The BBC has in effect ENCOURAGED his behavior therefore to act suddenly offended is ridiculous.

All the "nothings" out there speaking their moral outrage are just trying to elevate themselves to the stage pretending that their nothing of an opinion matters, when in no way it doesn't.

If you are a Top Gear fan, you know about Clarkson's previous gaffes and you tolerated them. Where was your moral outrage then? Nowhere to be found because you loved the great television it produced. But now, all of a sudden you're on your soap box, chest thumping. That makes you a hypocrite.

MDarringer writes "...BBC are a bunch of hypocrites given that they have profited [big] time from Clarkson's controversies and done NOTHING and then out of nowhere they decide to suddenly do something..."

You might not be aware that BBC has reprimanded Clarkson several times (resulting in Clarkson issuing apologies), giving him another chance. This is not "NOTHING". Eventually they fired him for assaulting a co-worker. Could they have fired him sooner? Perhaps.

To call the BBC hypocrites is similar to calling an abused wife a hypocrite because she put up with her husband's abuse for years while "profiting" from him by having a place to live. Then one day when an assault results in her broken arm -- the proverbial "straw that broke the camel's back -- she leaves her husband, and in MDarringer's mind, she's a hypocrite. I can't say I agree.

Some of us might be quick to judge the BBC for not being "more righteous" by axing Clarkson sooner, while if that happened, others would judge the BBC for over-reacting and not giving him a sufficient opportunity to straighten up his act. It's a no-win situation for BBC.

and those reprimands ENCOURAGED him to continue. Your skills at refutation are sorely lacking.

Other than Pierce Morgan(who probably had it coming), this is the first time that Clarkson has ever assaulted someone who is either part of Top Gear or BBC. Verbal insults and racial slurs are one thing. However when you go after somebody physically that's not cool. The other point is the reasoning that set Clarkson off in the first place. So what I am saying is obviously the BBC is a lot more tolerant of a persons verbal indiscretions. However they cannot be seen(as could any media network)as being tolerant of physical abuse. What! Do you think they are the NFL or something! This is Great Britain. The paragon of civilization!

Jeremy should definitely be charged with crass stupidity and uncontrolled anger.

What Jeremy should do is find a way to come out and say "I was wrong and I'm sincerely sorry for my actions. I have some issues that I need to work out". He has been virtually silent since he was fired and seems to have withdrawn from speaking in public. Never the less, unless he addresses what happened in public this will continue to be a Monkey On His Back. The media will not let it go.

Clarkson is not man enough to make any such admission of wrongdoing.
