Article: "...Apple is *BELEIEVED* to be working on an electric car which might hit the road by 2020..." (emphasis is mine)

Apple Computer, Inc.: "...We're not working on creating an Apple car..."

So all this "news" of an Apple car, and whether it poses a threat to other manufacturers, and who should be worried, and what they should do about it, is nothing more than conjecture.

What Apple *IS* doing, in working aggressively to penetrate the in-car infotainment system market across a number of brands. In other words, they want to own the car infotainment system market. That's very different from actually building a car, or even designing one.
