Is There A Case For Banning Grid Girls From Motorsports?

Is There A Case For Banning Grid Girls From Motorsports?

You've probably already read one or two pieces on the recent FIA decisions on the fate of the umbrella girls. Here are my two cents in this matter and summing up all the ideas that will follow, I'd add that I really hope this stupid idea will remain an attribute of the car racing scene, only.

The social media has been littered with all sorts of comments on this matter, and frankly, I was so disappointed to see that the most vocal fellows are those who support dumb concepts such as political correctness and are always ready to make a big fuss out of a non-issue.

This editorial may also contain traces of ranting and sarcasm, and if anyone feels insulted, that's just too bad.

So now men will have to secretly objectify women, just like things were in the 1800's.

I have a radical idea: How about the people who don't like it, don't look.

There may be an idea as too politically correct. If you are going to be that correct then throw in a few plus size gals in there for representation and be dome with it.

'009: I'm anything BUT politically correct :-) I'm saying let the hotties be, and if ya don't like it, then don't watch it. Kinda like saying "If ya don't like pizza and beer, ya don't have ta eat it!"

I'm an unapologetic male, and I'm good with that. I love women, without needing to put them on the Pedestal of Virtues and having The State "protect" them, like banning such events because the girls couldn't possibly decide for themselves, or be smart enough to know if someone's exploiting them, or whether they truly want to be there.

I'm not one who believe that a Playboy centerfold is exploited for being paid $10,000 for a photo-shoot, but rather, it's the millions of men who pay $10 a pop for the magazine she's in. They're the ones getting exploited. For both model and consumers, that's *their* choice.

I respect women. I respect the ones who wear burkas and believe they should be virgins when they marry. I respect women who enjoy sex and might even be swingers. That's *their* choice. Sweet or slutty, and everything in between, it's all good, and it's *their* choice!

What I don't respect is people who believe their thinking and beliefs are more valid than other's, including women, so we should not allow women to choose for themselves. Meh.

But that's just me. You get to think whatever suits you best, and I'm okay with it.

Yes, stand back and let the 'unapologetic male' (whatever that is) enjoy his gratuitous T&A.

As a gay man, I want equal time for males, and I want to see some scantily clad, hot men in this area too...and all you straight guys, well you can just turn your heads the other way!

And I want a male counter-part to 'Hooters'...with hot male waiters...we will make it look like a 'Sports' bar...and we can call the chain 'Balls'.

Leej: BTW, I'm strongly pro-LBGTQ (the "Q" is for "Questioning/Unsure"), which in *my* mind is just another way of saying: anti-discrimination/bigotry, regardless of excuse.

Something you and I share, is that we're in the minority. You, being gay male in a sea of straight people, are much less likely to see the masses catering to your orientation and tastes. My taste in cars is very much aligned with stately and elegant classic styling, like a 2014 Bentley GTC or a 2014 McLaren 12C. I'm so not into today's over-the-top swoopy headlights, angular designs, etc. I'm in the minority, so I have very few vehicles that inspire me, and which I can afford. Sometimes it sucks to be in the minority.

BTW, yes, I DO realize how being a gay male is HUGELY more significant in terms of experiencing challenges as compares to a guy who just has different tastes and thinking than the masses. Discrimination, bigotry, hatred, and other forms of ugliness don't come my way just because I have different tastes in car styles, whereas you've likely experienced some of that ugliness, just due to your orientation. The great news is that North American and Western societies have turned down the anti-LBGTQ hate a lot in the past decade. We still have a long way to go, though.
