Lexus Gives A Peek Under The Skirt Of The New ES - Are You Happy With What You See So Far?
Toyota Motor Corp. will introduce a new Lexus model in China for the second year in a row, showing a redesigned ES sedan in Shanghai this month.

The company released a teaser image of the refreshed ES on its website, showing the L-shaped daytime running light and spindle-shaped front grille that are hallmarks of the luxury brand's styling.

Toyota will release more details when the car is unveiled April 20 at the Shanghai auto show.

Is it just me or are too many new cars looking VERY busy in the front. Toyota and Nissan are probably worst at this right now, but the front ends on these cars are just SO overwrought, and not for the better. Lipstick on a pig, basically.

+1. You're not alone. Funny thing: on this side of the fence, we can see it instantly by taking a look at a tiny piece of the car, but on the other side, Lexus can't see it at all.

Personally, I think it's a mistake for Lexus to take the ES in a too-risky styling direction. It's the bread-and-butter for the brand, just like the RX and one of the reasons for its success is it handsomely conservative approach. Their demographic for the ES seem to be, much like the RX, empty nesters looking for a smooth, comfortable ride in a non-offensive package, with an more-than-attainable price point. This is where the Hyundai Genesis might win BIG with its very handsome design and same price point, with a very luxurious product.

I don't understand what is so 'offensive' here. I know some people have more conservative tastes, but there are others who tire of these same faces we see on some manufacturers over and over. Quite frankly, on some BMWs/Audis, I have to walk behind them to see the badging to figure out what model it is...no distinction other than size and a number. That too me is not conservative, but utterly boring.

It's not an age thing either, because I will be 60 in 4 months, and I appreciate and enjoy the distinctiveness of Lexus styling in its current state and appreciate that they are willing to take risks. I'm not saying that you are not entitled to your opinions, but I do not think this is any kind of harbinger of doom for the brand.
