CAR WARS! The BEST American Concepts Go Head-To-Head — Lincoln Continental Vs. Cadillac Elmiraj
If you were asleep and under a rock located somewhere in a third-world country without internet access, you may have missed the highlight of the 2015 New York Auto Show. That would be the all-new Lincoln Continental Concept.

While there are plenty of people who will try to tear down its design due to the large amount of creative license taken from the likes of Bentley — we see you, Lincoln — there's no question that it is an amazing looking vehicle INSIDE and OUT. It's brilliant.

New York Auto Show

BUT, we'd be hard-pressed to ignore the fact that there have been other outstanding American automobiles shown in concept form lately. The very best example of design before the Continental existed was the stunning big body coupe shown as the Cadillac Elmiraj.

We still can't wrap our heads around why General Motors' luxury division won't build it. We guess too many people adored it?

That said, we want to get down to brass tacks: WHICH American luxury concept car was BETTER purely from a DESIGN standpoint? The Lincoln Continental Concept or the Cadillac Elmiraj?

Let us know in the comments below!

Hands down: Elmiraj. The Elmiraj has an utter simplicity that is sophisticated and subtle. I like both. I think I'd be less sour on the CT6 if it had been called Elmiraj.

Could not agree more, Cadillac is really missing the boat by not building the El Miraj. It would bring huge amounts of traffic into the dealers. A lot of people might be surprised at their other offerings Cadillac has like the ATS V and CTS VSport and buy one of those instead. I drove a 2014 CTS VSport this past week, they were asking 49k for it with I think 6k miles on it. Reminded me a lot of my previous E39 M5. Unfortunately no manual is offered :(. Overall though it was a nice ride. Good power from the turbo V6, well judged and sorted suspension, crisp steering with just a bit of dead spot in the straight ahead. Heck of a lot of car for the money. We ended up renting a 3.6 CTS on our vacation in Miami and I even started to get the hang of the CUE system. Still needs work but probably not the deal breaker I thought it would be.

Wish there had been some actual photos of the Elmiraj posted with the Continental Concept to refresh my memory of it, alhough I did see it at the LA auto show a few years back and it was impressive. Coupe vs. Sedan, how is the sedan supposed to compete? Both are impressive and the Elmiraj makes the CT6 a big let down in my book.

Yeah, I know.

We had a slew of pics 001 shot at the 2013 Pebble Beach event but, unfortunately, our photos that old are having troubles on the server.

We're working to fix so I can update.

We're talking purely in terms of design. Don't over think this with "coupe vs. sedan."

Why compare? Only the Elmiraj is a concept. Ans as such - it was a well designed - original.

The Continental is a preproduction of a car that will be produced. It is - at best - highly derivative.

No one will get to buy an ElMiraj - the manager of that division is worthless. Lots of people will buy Continentals. I suspect that Ford will price it to compete with the Lexus LS460 - and if it is slightly less - it will sell like Hotcakes comparatively in a slow selling segment of the Luxury Car Market. There is a pent up demand for a new Large American Luxury Sedan since the end of the Town car - and this car will supply that demand nicely.

Cadillac is in the Luxury Sports car market according to deNysschen - and it has already renounced claim to the typical American and Chinese Luxury Car buyer. The CT6 is a real question mark - is it big enough inside to please the Old Large Luxury Sedan market? ANd does it ride and pamper its passenger well enough. That we will have to wait and see for.

The Cadillac here is light-years ahead of the Continental design.

The big ol' sign behind the Continental says CONCEPT...

True - The sign does SAY concept - But wait a year - and see which one remains a concept!

Gm has a history of NOT producing the concept cars we all love - and producing new cars like the CT6 - no matter how good it might be - that simply do not live up to the Cadillac concepts.

And then GM wonders why sales are down at Cadillac.
1 - Tell your old customers you don't want them anymore
2 - Produce cars your old customers won't buy
3 - Don't produce cars that look good - like your concepts
4 - Try to compete with cars for which the market is fragmented and split up by a number of well financed players.
5 - Produce cars that are too small for the average American

And then characterize your old customers as if they are a joke.

Sorry - once upon a time -GM was known at least for good marketing - DeNysschen doesn't know a bit about it.

The Elmiraj is definitely a more dynamic design, with more aggressive and distinctive details.
