#NYIAS: How Do YOU Like Me Now? This Lexus NX F Sport Has Some Seriously BRIGHT Swag
Much like many all-new vehicles that transition from concept to reality, the Lexus NX was thrown plenty of hate. It came from all directions, really. Automotive industry elite, critics, journalists, the buying public.

We happen to think it's a successful, polarizing design that is controversial but nicely executed. If you see one on the street, its spiky look may just turn you around.

But if you've been pretty unimpressed with the typical colors — champagne, pearl white, the variety of silvers, black, etc. — then this bright blue hue called Ultrasonic Blue Pearl may be the one for you. Sure, it's a bit loud but when paired up with the likes of the NX's F Sport kit, it looks pretty tasty.

Well, at least to me.

That said, let us know what you think: are you digging this NX and this color?

The only color this design eyesore would look good in is TRANSPARENT so that people outside the thing couldn't see it.

I hate to admit it but the design is growing on me... That color isn't bad either...

Saw my first one on the road this week. The awkward proportions looked even worse than when I saw at the auto show. I laughed, as I could not believe someone bought this thing.

Laugh all you want. I am the proud owner of one of these 'things', and I am here to tell you it is I find the shape and design beautiful. The technology is amazing, and of course, the Lexus build quality and reliability are unmatched. When you get in the NX, the doors shut with a solid thud that cocoons you. I have an AWD version, and the 200t engine is incredibly responsive. When I am driving, I cannot stop grinning.

Apparently I am not alone, because Lexus cannot build enough of these. They are having to increase production as demand has out-paced delivery.

What's the turbo lag like on this motor, as I believe it is Toyota's first turbo motor offered to the masses? I bet it looks faster than it actually is, which would be disappointing. Oh and the door shut sound is something that even Hyundai can do so that's not a good judge of a build quality anymore.

It's selling because it it thousands less than the competition, and you still get a "luxury" badge. In my opinion, having to look at that face with true disappointment is not worth the savings, but for others who value "value," they care less about looks.

Leej: Congrats on the new wheels, and I'm glad you like your purchase. My understanding, according to Lexus, is that the new design is selling like hotcakes. I'm one of the crowd that doesn't like the new styling, and bought a new Q5. To each their own.

BTW, boo on those taking personal jabs at you. Not cool.

At 235 hp with 258 lb ft of torque, it's very peppy. 0-60 is 7 seconds. Highway passing is fantastic. Around town off the line is great and does not feel slow at all. It doesn't feel like a 4 cyl at all. You have to drive one to really know. Also, go to youtube...there are plenty of road tests. Autoweek recently published a review too.

As for the door thunk, well, just look at the historical numbers for Lexus reliability...compared to the Hyundai...well, compared to all automakers for that matter. Just get into an X1 and shut the door...sounds like a tin-can, and you are surrounded by hard plastic everywhere...X3 not much better. Then go look at Audi...build quality looks goo, but a similarly equipped Audi cost nearly $10k more.

agreed on the sound of the X1 door, it was very off putting for me too

Hey folks, it's OK to have an opinion. It's of no consequence to me if you do not like the Lexus. I am just sharing my personal experience. ;-)

This is what one reviewer from Autoweek said about the powertrain:

"Where the Lexus excels is in its powertrain. Apparently it’s quite difficult to make a small turbo four into a luxury car engine -- witness attempts by BMW, Mercedes, Audi and Cadillac; some (Audi and Cadillac) are better than others (BMW and especially Mercedes). Lexus nailed it, and the NX provides a perfect blend of effortless power with no discernable turbo lag, no wonky dual-clutch transmission and no NVH penalty. The drive mode selector functions as a powertrain fine-tuning knob rather than a personality-change switch -- eco mode slows things down a bit, sport mode speeds things up a bit, and normal is just about perfect. The NX never tries to be something it’s not."

It will be interesting to see how the NX impacts the sales of the RX. The RX was always the lower-cost alternative to the ML and X5. It actually was an almost perfectly-positioned product, bisecting the GLK/ML, X3/X5, Q5/Q7. They seemed to be owned by empty-nesters who wanted the utility of an SUV and the versatility of AWD, but didn't need tons of space nor did they want to pay the almost $10k premium for the Germans.
The NX now offers an even lower-cost option, granted with a bit less space. The current RX and NX are basically equal when it comes to passenger space, but the RX has much more cargo capacity. And it gets better MPG.

The Europe worshippers are mad because they don't like Lexus.

Some just don't like the styling, without worshipping any country of origin. I'm one of those. In *my* mind, Lexus makes noteworthy vehicles whose styling turned me away. But that's just me.

Another fun thing about the NX is how tossable it is darting in and out of traffic. It is very tight with minimal n=body lean and truly FUN to drive!!

Even more fun is the online community of owners...outside of the US and Canada, we have members from Australia, the Czech Republic, the UK, Wales, Sweden, and Greece. It's really interesting to see hoe the vehicles are equipped and marketed to the countries/regions.

@ TheSteve...thanks for the kind words and congrats on your Q5. I considered the Q5, but it was just not for me...I don't know...I walked away wanting more. I have owned 2 Lexus (model GS) in the past, so I have had the experience with them being able to take a beating and not even flinch. I put 50k miles on the one GS in 2 years and that vehicle was still like new when I sold it. It was just as tight and solid as the day I bought it.

Saw one today and did a complete walkaround. Don't like it. At all. Lexus is trying way too hard with the styling on this. I saw a different one a few days ago, just the front and it didn't seem that bad. But when looking at full walkaround, it just didn't resonate with me. And it's listed at 64.8 inch height, but it didn't seem that much taller than a GLA250 which is listed at 60.8 inches height. To be fair, I actually can't think of any car in this specific class (GLA, X1, Q3, NX) that I find to be a truly good design.
