Cadillac Slashes 2016 ELR Plug-In Pricing By $9,000 - Will This Help Move The Metal?

General Motors Co. said Wednesday it’s shaving about $9,000 off the price of its Cadillac ELR plug-in hybrid for the 2016 model year.

Cadillac said after U.S. federal tax credits of $7,500, the 2016 ELR will start at $58,495. The current model starts at $75,000 and after tax credits starts at $67,500.

The ELR luxury coupe has been a slow seller and has been heavily discounted at times by some dealers to move them; last year GM sold 1,310, and through March this year, Cadillac has sold 311. That’s up from 180 sold during the same three months in 2014.

Performance and technology aside, I really like this car's exterior design. But the whole pricing strategy of Cadillac seems like it was merely to serve the message their marketing dept was trying to convey to the market, i.e. "we're in the same league as MB and BMW". If Cadillac continues to produce the good sedans, like those made in recent years, for another 10 - 15 years, then their status and pricing will elevate naturally, not because marketing says so.

Agreed.

So slashing $9K is not going to solve the problem at this point. People know what they were trying to do and they resent that.

It should be priced at parity with the ATS Coupe.

I don't think $9000 even with all the extras they're making standard on the car is going to open the flood gates. mre30 is close, pricing it closer to the ATS Coupe might improve its chances....?

I think they left off the "3" right before the "9".

With an Obviously Superior Chevy Volt at far less money - the ELR should have been discontinued

IF GM was serious about selling the car - it should have had the Volt Improvements first - and maybe should also have had even more extended range. The lack of real marketing of Cadillacs is getting worse. I question whether DeNysschen has any idea how to actually sell cars in the USA. ANd now I question whether Mary Bara had the guts to put an end to this nonsense and reign in the idiot.

Agreed and sad because I thought Cadillac was finally onto something. I live bet. NY and FL and in both places they are trying so hard to push inventory

The public knows that a Cadillac is nothing more than an warmed over Chevrolet being sold as an excessively high price.
