SHANGHAI MOTOR SHOW: Ford Unveils The 2016 Taurus In China — Is THIS What We'll Be Getting In The States?
WHOA! China's Shanghai Motor Show is turning out to be a pretty happening place to be!

Not only did Mercedes-Benz trot out the all-new GLC Concept, Ford brought out the 2016 Taurus. Of course, we're not entirely sure if this will be the all-new model headed to the North American market, but if we are to believe what Ford's been telling us, the company's products will be synched across the globe.

2016 Ford Taurus

That's why we're getting the Focus RS, that's why the Fusion is the same as Europe's Mondeo, etc., etc.

According to folks on the scene, the Taurus is going to be going a bit more luxurious than it currently exists. This makes sense for the Chinese market as mid-size limos are common and American vehicles are a "must have" for the elite class.

That's essentially why General Motors didn't kill Buick.

The Taurus is said to be equipped with the 2.7-liter EcoBoost motor, but no detailed specs have been released.

We'll keep you abreast of the latest and greatest news from Shanghai as it breaks...

Don't get me wrong, I love my Audi, but Ford did right what Audi has been doing wrong. This is stylish and has presence. I like.

Definitely cleaned up the flaws of the current model, at least front and sides. Too bad the rear view is missing here since the current rear styling was a disaster. Looks way better than any Lincoln and should bring some respect back to the Taurus name.

And people complain when the Asians copy the Europeans. There is not an original line on this car.

Tell us more then. Calling it a copy and not pointing it out doesn't help. Aside from the grille... It has 4 doors. 4 wheels. A passenger compartment. A body line that follows the belt line... If you think these haven't been used on fords in the past, you haven't known ford very long. I see some Asian, European and American design in this. Pretty well rounded if you ask me. Not to mention.. Ford is trying to launch most models on a global scale so, seeing elements that appeal to others should be expected.

Here you want someone to point out where it copied off of? I'll point it out. I'm jtz that's what I do. Greenhouses: Avalon, Sentra, Altima, Infinti M, 2016 Kia Opitma, 2016 Malibu, Impala, Dart, 200, Fusion (well it's a ford so), BMW gt, Acura ZDX, Honda Crosstour, yet when the 2004 Suburu Legacy's greenhouse was unveiled, no one was interested. Yet when the 2011 Hyundai Sonata came out all of a sudden this greenhouse is on every make and model including the Buick Veron.

Ashon Martin, Hyundai Sante Fe and Ford Tuarus hint grilles.

I can't see the backend but my guess it's Audi like tail lights found on the Avalon, Corolla, Chrysler 200, Jetta.

Nice attitude. So you name a bunch of random sedans from across the globe but point out nothing specific. You can say that for any car. Not only that, the greenhouses you mention look nothing alike. As for the Subaru, no one is interested because they suck. Crappy interiors and rattle traps after 30k. Me personally, I've only ripped on the old hyundai for the blatant headlight, center stacks, and rear ends. Circa 2010 Genesis. It actually resembles a Mercedes and an untrained eye could confuse the two. That's a blatant ripoff. You mentioned "lines". That's pretty nondescript. No need to get upset. If you are going to rip on something, put something to your argument. I agree the grille is an Aston look alike. That argument has been going on since the fusion was redesigned. As for the Santa Fe, I'd have to go look at which hit the shows first but both fusion and Santa fe were redesigned for 2013 MY so can't really say ford is ripping off Hyundai there. Aston yes. Hyundai... Not unless ford had a spy at Hyundai and even then... People usually aren't cross shopping a Santa Fe and a Fusion.

Oh you want better specifics then? Ok. 2009 Mazda Tribute and 2009 Tundra hint headlights. 2009 Pilot and 2009 Scion XB hint backends. 2008 Chevy Mailibu and 2009 Mercedes C hint headlights.

You want that specific? Ok. Buick Regal and Volvoo S60 hint backends. 2009 Mazda 6 and Acura ZDX hint side profiles. YOu can't get any more detailed than that.

There that should keep you scratching your head.

I can definitely see a similarity with the side greenhouse profile of the old Mazda 6. As for the ZDX... Must be in the eye of the beholder but at least it's somewhat current.

Thanks for posting something specific though. No need to cop an attitude to something not intended for you but round of applause for the example. Granted, both models no longer on sale when this hits the market but that's just minor details right?

As for the others below.. I suppose some but you miss the point. Hyundai copied the Mercedes that was being produced and it was on the market at the same time in 2010. Hardly anyone remembers that level of detail to go back half a decade and compare the Taurus to your examples but hey, you gave examples so I give you credit.. As for the tundra... I'm a truck guy. Sorry but that's a stretch. Almost every example you mention is no longer in production or will be exiting the market by the time the Taurus arrives so i have to just trust your judgement that this is a huge ripoff. Shame on ford.

Ignoring the first generation Lexus LX didn't look like a Mercedes. But because Lexus isn't Korean you rather play dumb like Toyota didn't copy to get their foot in the door.

Looks alot like the current Fusion and Taurus which the Asians didn't hesitate to steal. Is it copying if you're copying what some talentless guys across the Pacific just shamelessly stole from you?

I can't believe some moron thinks this copied a KIA. The KIA Optima is just a recycled Audi clone.

Sorry but whitey still innovates, Asia just copies at a lower price.

My point is that everyone has a hissy fit here when an Asian design copies someone else...so I thought I would just point that out. And you are right...I haven't really looked at Ford in over 40 years.

That's cool. I guess I don't get why people would get defensive over it when you have examples like the Kia amanti/jag/Mercedes lookalike from last years and the genesis/ml twins. Both companies have come a long way and you gotta start with what works. I sat in a new genesis recently at the Denver auto show and really liked what I saw. Doesn't change the past though and as for not looking at a ford... I don't blame you. Especially from the 80s to fairly current sedan wise. The fusion is a big step forward for ford though. If the Taurus is a step up, they should have a pretty nice car on their hands. If they offer a SHO AWD version, that would be tough to pass up or at least not look through the copycat window ;)
