SHANGHAI MOTOR SHOW: Forget The Walking Dead! Beware The ATTACK Of The Clones! #autoshanghai2015
It's actually hard to believe that these things really exist, but they do.

Although there's a nice stream of information coming from the Shanghai Motor Show about real cars making their big time debut, there's also one of our favorite bits from this particular show. That would be the clone cars produced by Chinese automakers.

Rather than churn out an original product, you'll note that these car companies have zero problem ripping off some of the globe's most popular models. In some cases they're a bit discrete, others, not so much.

To see just what we're on about, check out the video clip below...

As China’s car market booms, we look at the shameless lookalikes Chinese car makers are selling - and see if they are legal

The Chinese car industry is a very big deal. In 2013, China produced a whopping 18.7 million cars, which equates to 22.7 per cent of global car production for that year. Many of those models were from brands familiar to western car buyers, some were from companies we’ve never heard but it's a third group we're interested in here. These are cars we've never heard of that still seem to look strangely familiar, these are the Chinese copycat cars.

China doesn't honor other countries' laws. Other countries don't have legal jurisdiction in China. Therefore, it's all legal, as long as the copied cars don't get exported to a country that does honor those laws. I assume that's when the original and offended car company takes the case to court to get an import ban.

Personally, I like the look of the "copycat" in the picture above. I wish we had an original vs copy picture so we could make the visual comparison, and see if we like the copy more than the original.

If this car was Korean it would have been about 20 or more comments by now. But because it's not Korean cars from China can get away with it ad people will act like it's ok. Ignoring that they are cloning not copying which in the human mind is worse. But people will pretend cloning is acceptable but the 2016 Sorento is a Venza's side profile but not a clone of the Toyota.
