The Chinese Are Coming! Geely Plans New Crossover For US Market - Who Will This Hurt The Most?
Chinese automaker Geely Automobile plans to build a small SUV late next year that will go on sale in China in early 2017, several European markets a year or so later, and eventually the United States, said two senior executives, one of whom recently left the Chinese group.

For export to Europe, the SUV will initially be a plug-in hybrid version. In China, Geely plans to sell a gasoline-engine version starting in early 2017, followed by a couple of alternative fuel variants, including plug-ins.

In targeting Europe with an alternative-fuel model, Geely wants to be seen as a maker of affordable high-tech cars rather than just another cheap, no-frills Chinese brand, the executives said, adding Geely plans a limited number of flagship showrooms in Europe.

"It's an effort to burnish our brand before we bring out more mainstream gasoline-fueled cars to Europe and eventually to the U.S.," one of the executives said.

It will kill Mitsubishi that is if Mitsubishi isn't dead yet in the USA. Geely--if it plays the Hyundai game of value pricing and a massive warranty--could easily crush VW.

Easily crush VW? The world's second largest auto maker? I don't think so. It may be a niche player in the US but it's buyers don't cross shop bottom of the barrel imports.

Mitsubishi doesn't need history like Kia because it's Not Korean. People will ignore that they were shitty back in the 90's too. But because Mitsubishi isn't Korean, people will play dumb like that didn't happen. So yeah Mitsibhsi could crush VW.

It'll hurt the Koreans the most though because their customers are the cheapest of the cheap or just simply poor.

By the way, my local Hyundai dealership has had the same 2 Genesis Bentley killers on the lot since early December.

It'll hurt the Koreans the most? Ignoring the Koreans took out Suzuki, Mitsubishi, Isuzu and Saturn.

By the way, I saw the same Chevy Volt by the Chevy dealership since last December. But because the Volt isn't Korean that's ok.

Ignoring Daewoo was cheaper than Kia and Hyundai yet Daewoo isn't here and Hyundai/Kia is. So if their consumers are the cheapest than according to your logic Daewoo would still be here. Also ignroing Suzuki was cheaper than Kia. Why isn't Suzuki not here then huh?

The Korean government chose to support Hyundai and abandoned Daewoo to GM, KIA was swallowed up by Hyundai the national champion that gets free money because its a Chaebol. Also, people with brains still won't buy cheap if it looks like pile of crap which is generally what Korean cars resembled until they started copying everyone else.

Taking out Japan's second tier automakers isn't something to brag about. Hell, Mazda has done better even with the South Koreans giving us free cars. Toyota and Honda are still doing quite well, even Nissan is growing despite the imitation cars that people could be buying for less.

Korean cars were laughed out of Japan because they have loyalty to their own companies. Until recently, we couldn't even sell cars in South Korea because Hyundai knew they'd eat up Western brands like there's no tomorrow. Even with our free trade agreement (which never favour our own companies) we have limits on what can be sent to South Korea yet they can dump all the cars they want here, duty free.

If Hyundai had the balls, they'd sell their cars at or above prices of US and Jap cars, but they know nobody would even drivw into the parking lot let alone walk into a showroom.

Korean products = cheap, just open the newspaper or watch TV for a few minutes.

If a Korean car adds in $8000 worth of options because their gov't covers any losses, so what if a competitor is $1000 less (which I highly doubt), of course said company won't be able to compete. Unlike Hyundai/KIA, most companies have to survive on merit, not be crowned national champion, protected at home, subsidized abroad. Even the Samsung CEO was let out of jail because he was deemed to important to the economy. That's a laugh. I'd like to see Warren Buffett try that line.

Speaking of cheap. If Hyundai/Kia consumers are cheap why aren't Rio/Accent their best selling models? Why is the Sorento EX and SX selling better than the LX? Why is the Optima selling better than the Forte. Unless the Forte cost more than the Optima all of a sudden?

Friend of mine sent me this article, basically explains how Korean firms stay in business with crappy products. Also explains why white people will never admit they're cheap.

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/report-on-business/south-koreas-chaebol-problem/article24116084/

The Korean government basically showered them with free money and protected them from competition as long as they entered into strategic industries (later, non related ego industries), which is exactly what the Japs did with their titans. So South Korea is literally Japan Jr.

Daewoo failed because the chaebols spread themselves out too thin and the Korean government didn't have enough money to bail them all out, so this is why KIA and Daewoo failed. Not because of some BS market forces excuse you tards make up.
As for the 2nd tier Jap automakers you guys mention, they're all still selling cars in Japan.

I joke that the US government is run by corporations but the South Korean government is quite literally owned by chaebols.

I love this quote which can be applied to all South Korean companies.
working on a campaign with Samsung and being told: “We’re not innovators. We’re fast followers.”

Now that China is killing South Korea's cheap exports and Japan/Apple are killing the high end exports, I guess people only have a limited time to buy their cheap Korean products before they disappear along with the country.

You also have to read the list of chaebol Chairmen and CEOs who were convicted of fraud, embezzlement and other crimes but were pardoned because basically they told the government to let them go. Makes our crooks look like amateurs.

Go on loving your imitation cars and electronics, just don't pretend it has anything to do with style or quality. It's because you're cheap.
