BMW stays ahead of the competition - as usual. 335i sedan debuts.

BMW's 3-series has been the icon that every company from Infiniti to Lexus to Audi to Acura has tried for generations to dethrone and for generations, they have failed.

With the recent Lexus IS350 pushing out 306 horsepower and the Infiniti G35 also above the 300 horsepower mark, BMW was at a loss for acceleration, but as always had those magical driving dynamics to every so narrowly pull out a win.

Time for the gap to grow even wide with the 335i sedan. BMW now offers the turbocharged V6 from the 335i coupe in the sedan. The coupe has been clocked at 0-60 in 4.9 seconds and a 1/4 mile in 13.6 seconds.

bmwusa official statistics place the 335i coupe at 0-60 in 5.3 with manual and 5.5 with automatic.

the sedan has times of 0-60 in 5.4 for the manual and 5.6 with the automatic.

BMW now has the acceleration, as well as the handling.

BMW has just launched yet another iteration of the iconic 3-series that will dismantle the competition one by one - as usual.

4.9s for the coupe? Wow, that's fast. But this really is becoming ridiculous. Ten years ago, a car that had 200hp and did 0-60 in 6.5s was respectible. Now, we have this.

I'm more concerned with fuel economy, and Audi's 2.0t four is one of the smoothest, fuel efficient engines on the market, and offers great performance for day to day driving.

Call me a stickler for details, but a V6 engine in a BMW... can't remember the last time they used a V6... infact I don't think they ever have.

while we are on the topic of turbochargers....if i do really a lot of miles and keep my cars until they die, isn't i am better off with a naturally aspirated engine because even if engine is specifically designed for turbos, force feeding is still rough on internals plus 7-8 year old turbo won't be as effective as a new one (so i have read). What do you think guys? i know turbos are amazing performance wise, but i am concerned with really-long-time reliability (like over 10 years) This is simply my thing -- i like to keep my cars as long as i possibly can.

turbo smurbo! whats so exclusive about this engine now that its even available in the sedan. BMW doesnt want to win this segment. the next g35 sedan states 0-60 in 5.2 so can u imagine what the coupe will deliver? the IS 350 coupe will be here soon as well and u all know it will be powerful just as well. ive owned 2 330ci's a g35coupe and now the clk 500. and i love the 500 over em all! 300 hp and 300 lb ft of torque for the 335i this would have been incredible when the e46 was introduced but in these times.....the 335i is just waiting to be surpassed again! it is only a competitor! not a dominator. theres a difference!

BMW raised the price two grand on the sedan. Is it all for the 50 hp or are there other options added?

Or, if you gotta ask you can't afford it...?
