Range Rover Sales Owning The Segment As Is Outsells Land Cruiser, LX570, And G-Class Combined In March

Land Rover USA reported more than 1000 Range Rover sales in each of the last six months and in eight of the last nine months. Year-over-year volume has now increased in four consecutive months as well as in seven of the last eight months.

But it was the month of March in particular that drew special attention to U.S. sales performance of one of the world’s best known high-end SUVs.

Land Rover reported 1996 Range Rover sales in America in March 2015, a 151%, 1202-unit year-over-year increase.

Three out of every ten Land Rovers sold last month in the U.S. were Range Rovers, a luxury SUV with a USD base price above $80,000 (and options which take the MSRP well beyond $140,000). Only Land Rover’s second-most-expensive model, the Range Rover Sport, sold more often, thanks to a 51% jump to 2646 March sales.

Personally I think it is great that the UK is producing viable alternatives to the German contingent. I hope some of the new Jaguars do the same with various car segments. Once Cadillac gets CUE fixed, completes their engine revamp, smacks some of their dealers around and builds the El Miraj they will have some tough competition for the Germans as well.

The REAL fact is that the new Cadillac Escalade owns 1/3 of this segment. So, actually, it's owning the segment is we're being fair.

Those buyers will also own the "my car gets repaired way too often" segment in 3 years time not to mention the "the worst depreciating SUV segment" which they currently own - suckas

Maybe some things are changing at Land Rover, the world is not a static place, just look how far the Korean cars have come in the last 10 years. The Range Rover Sport #1 in residual value for mid size premium SUVs and the Evoque is 2nd in premium compact SUVs. https://www.alg.com/residual-value-awards/

The LandCruiser and LX 570 debuted in 2007 and have not been updated since, they even have 5 speed automatics, the Gelandewagen debuted in 1979 and still looks the same even if the engines have been updated, even the 911 has evolved its shape over the decades..

TIMING. And having a lot of new product available for purchase TODAY...as opposed to endless concepts & pre-production mules.

Also, the buying public likes to see new & flashy - hence their increased interest in the RR, RR Sport, & Disc Sport. These SUVs really look like "meaningful" SUVs. I honestly don't understand how Lexus/Toyota has been able to keep up until this point with the lineup they currently have. There are a certain number of consumers that are still under the "spell" that makes a Lexus still extremely desirable.

When the ultra-luxury SUVs get moving, there will be another shift consumer taste.
