RECALL ALERT: Nearly 400,000 Ford Products Called In Due To Door Latch Issues

RECALL ALERT: Nearly 400,000 Ford Products Called In Due To Door Latch Issues
When I close the door of an automobile I am traveling in, I really want it to stay closed. There's a couple good reasons for this:

1) I do not want to fly out of the vehicle whilst in motion; and,
2) I do not want to hit someone else with a door and cause them harm or rip off said door.

It's a pretty important part of a car. You shut the door, it stays closed.

In Ford's case, it seems like nearly 400,000 vehicles are being called in due to faulty door latches. If you own one of the following you should call up your local Ford or Lincoln dealer:

- 2012-2014 Ford Fiesta
- 2013-2014 Ford Fusion
- 2013-2014 Lincoln MKZ

FORD MOTOR COMPANY ISSUES SAFETY RECALL IN NORTH AMERICA FOR DOOR LATCH ISSUE ON FORD FIESTA AND FUSION, LINCOLN MKZ

Ford Motor Company is issuing a safety recall for approximately 390,000 2012-2014 Ford Fiesta and 2013-2014 Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ vehicles for a door latch issue. The door latch in these vehicles may experience a broken pawl spring tab, which typically results in a condition where the door will not latch. If a customer is then able to latch the door, there is potential the door may unlatch while driving, increasing the risk of injury.

Ford is aware of two allegations of soreness resulting from an unlatched door bouncing back when the customer attempted to close it, and one accident allegation when an unlatched door swung open and struck an adjacent vehicle as the driver was pulling into a parking space.

Affected vehicles include certain 2012-2014 Ford Fiesta vehicles built at Cuautitlán Assembly Plant, Feb. 1, 2012 to May 31, 2013; certain 2013-2014 Ford Fusion vehicles built at Hermosillo Assembly Plant, July 1, 2012 to May 31, 2013; and certain 2013-2014 Lincoln MKZ vehicles built at Hermosillo Assembly Plant, July 1, 2012 to May 31, 2013.

There are approximately 390,000 vehicles in North America (actual 389,585), including 336,873 in the United States and federalized territories, 30,198 in Canada and 22,514 in Mexico.

Dealers will replace all four door latches at no cost to the customer.

Well, it's Ford. It's American.

There is no such thing as something called "quality" in anything the United States produces. Hell, most likely Made in China is far superior by now.

The U.S. is just a country that lives off of profits they make out of Disneyland and Apple's overpriced junk electronics. Nothing more. Nothing less.

Hmmm.. 3 known incidents and they recall 400,000 vehicles to fix for no charge... I tend to view that as a company that is concerned about quality and willing to go the extra mile to fix the potential problem. All without a federal investigation or finger pointing... Take notes toyota and GM...

I say this realizing they have to have more evidence but... The actions speak louder to me as a consumer. It's one thing to have a recall. It's another when there is a documented issue that the manufacturer refuses to fix until they have no choice because of legal recourse.
