VIDEO: Are YOU Buying This? The Porsche 911 Experience vs. A Fighter Jet
There's absolutely no question that if you've been pinned to the seat of a very fast car with a professional driver, your brain is completely scattered. You're wondering if what you're feeling is normal, questioning if you're going to vomit or pass out, and quite possibly laughing your head off.

It's a thrilling experience, that's for sure. But, how does it compare to a fighter jet?

It seems that Porsche's Marketing department was thinking about that. So, it put a Porsche 911 (991) GT3 on the track and took a participant for a spin. In addition, it got some seat time in the cockpit of an L39 Albatros and let the pilot have a bit of fun.

So, how did it turn out? Well it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that the airplane would be a bit more stimulating than something fixed to the pavement. Although it's pretty clear that the impact was similar.

Are you buying it though?

After all, it is a marketing piece.

What say you, Spies?

What will stimulate the brain the most? The G-Force experienced by flying in a fighter jet? Or the G-Force experienced by driving in a Porsche on the Zandvoort race track. Porsche. Uncommon.

It's just marketing, folks. Take that sh*t seriously, and you'll go bonkers.

I suggest ya just go out there and get what you like, what suits your needs, and what you can afford. And ignore what the marketers and forum jockeys tell ya.

FWIW, I have a close friend who's a retired Naval Aviator and test pilot. He's flown "everything" from Tomcats to F-18s to B52s to numerous experimental craft. He's been catapult-launched off carrier decks and come back to land on them in pitch dark in heaving seas. According to him, when you compare a car to a fighter jet, there's no comparison. I'm taking him at his word on this, as I have no direct experience.

That's not a fighter, it's just a trainer. Max speed is M 0.80. It does have a respectable rate of climb, but still nothing compared to a fighter jet.

I got a back seat ride in an F-15 about 9 years ago at Klamath Falls, OR. Afterburner takeoff going straight up. There's no way anything on the ground can equal that. :)

Agree. Cars cannot mimic jets. That said, I think what the guy says - and yes, it's marketing - is that the responses are similar though of different intensity.

It's like saying that if you like strawberries dipped in maple syrup, you get the same reaction as if you like filet mignon. Perhaps, in a way, but the two are very different....
