If You Could MAP Out Your DREAM Road Trip, WHERE Would You Go And In What Vehicle?
One of the few people I have completely unparalleled respect for in the automotive sphere is Harry Metcalfe. This man is a giant.

Unlike the others, he doesn't rely on slick cinematography or a team of folks to produce his content. What you see is what you get. One man and typically he's taking video as though it were a selfie. It seems he's gotten at least one camera guy now though and with good reason. He's obtained some sponsorships and he just went on a properly epic journey.

Metcalfe took his very own Ferrari Testarossa to the Sahara.

While there's plenty to watch in his 30-minute clip below, this got me thinking: IF you had the chance to map out your DREAM road trip, WHERE would you go and in WHAT vehicle?

Over the years I've read about some remarkable features. One of my favorites was a buff book that took a Mazda Miata to a California ski resort where it hit the slopes, and then raced back to the coast to lay on the sand and take a dip.

But, I want to know about you. If you could make a dream road trip come true, what would it be like and where would you go?

Back in 1995, Richard Bremner drove a Ferrari 512M all the way from the Ferrari factory to the Sahara desert for Car Magazine. To celebrate this great story, I decided to drive my 1987 Ferrari Testarossa to the Yasmina Hotel next to the Erg Chebbi dunes in the Sahara Desert, the same hotel Richard stayed in twenty years ago.

Tough broad question. Maybe an RR Sport from the Paanama canal to the tip of South America, or a Cayman GTS through Slovenia,Austria and down to Verona IT,lot of fun possibilities there. I used to do stupid stuff in a pickup truck so maybe take a aerodynamically tuned and hot riddled Dodge Ram truck at high speed on the autobahn between Munich and Stuttgart.

A tour of the Mid and North West National Parks of the USA - and from there to the Grand Canyon - down to Arizona - Texas and the Alamo. Depending on the time of the year - might even consider a side trip to Alaska (I live on the east coast).

When I was younger I would have done this with a mid-size station wagon and a tent - the first Taurus wagon was a great vehicle for that. Today - I might consider a Buick Enclave - or a Chrysler Mini-van - or Ford Explorer. I wish they still had station wagons though - they still handled better than the CUV's.

Don't need an exotic - the point of the trip is not speed - it is to enjoy the views. But still would want something that can handle the mountain roads and also have enough room for 5-6 weeks of stuff needed.

For me, I am thinking an X5M and a run from Paris to the Amalfi Coast.

The Amalfi coast is amazing to drive on, awesome views (when you can take your eyes off the twisty turning roads, other than those big coach buses it is a blast... I am totally amazed at the drivers as they don't have inches to spare, they have millimeters (well it is Europe after all) but they can really hose up traffic too. You should post another thread about the most challenging places to drive! My vote goes to Palermo, as crowded as India but going at F1 speeds, totally insane. India is a mess but everyone is going 30kph.
