STUD OR DUD? BMW's New 7 Series Caught In The Nude!

STUD OR DUD? BMW's New 7 Series Caught In The Nude!
The new BMW 7 Series has been spotted undisguised as its public debut at the Frankfurt motor show in September edges closer.

This side profile picture, which shows the car completely undisguised, was first published to BimmerToday and reveals more of the new luxury model's detailing than ever before. Previously, the 7 Series has only been spotted testing in camouflage.

Sales of the sixth-generation 7 Series are due to get underway later this year. Key among the goals for the new 7 Series is a significant weight reduction via the use of a combination of aluminium, magnesium, high-strength steel and carbonfibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP), the latter of which is set to be used not only for the bonnet and roof but also in load-bearing areas in the floorpan and body.

Nothing new or exciting here. This looks just like the existing 7-series which means it will continue to be outsold by the Mercedes-Benz S-Class by a huge margin.

If you think the six year old 7-Series getting outsold by the brand new S-class is bad, imagine how bad it must be for the A8, which is outsold by both "by a huge margin".

This is the same problem DeNysschen is having with Cadillac.
People who want a LARGE LUXURY car do not want a car that is smaller - tighter - has less trunk space - and weighs less- they cannot BRAG about that! They want Roomy interior, Large trunk, quiet, smooth but controlled ride, and as Rolls Once put it - "Sufficient" power. A High End Sports Sedan - is NOT a Luxury car - and in that size range - they are NOT looking for sports cars. Many have chauffeurs.

BMW and Cadillac are makings their large cars for a market that barely exists. Cadillac needs to go back to producing the American affordable Rolls Royce - and BMW should stick with little sports cars.

Yep, you're definitely on to something. BMW does not understand the luxury segment that buys the S Class. Yes, BMW truly understand the compact sports segment (2/3/4 series) and executive sports segment (5/6 series), but the 7 series has a very very small audience. At this size, it's too large to be sporty or pretend to be sporty. The audience for sporty sedans would rather buy an M5 or M6 Gran Coupe than a 7. The larger audience in this segment wants an extended wheelbase that's more Lexus and comfortable than sporty. The 7 has created an image of itself that's too niche. The S Class is proud to be a refined passenger luxury vehicle and makes no pretenses at being "sporty", good branding message.

It's trying to sell a wiz-bang water proof sports watch to a millionaire golfer who never goes in the water. Sure there are a few well heeled water enthusiasts, but wouldn't you rather sell to a larger audience?

Hyundai called and they want their design back. This has Equus written all over it.

I thought I was the only one to see that. I see a whole lotta Equus going on.

And it's not that the Equus is a bad car, but I never would have thought I would see the day when BMW is copying Hyundai and offering a less inspiring product than Hyundai as their flagship sedan.

The S class Mercedes is far more classy and attractive than this new BMW 7.

True if your definition of classy is fat assed and ghetto blingy.

"fat assed and ghetto blingy" - some time I ask myself why do I get so much joy out of people's pain and bitterness and resentment from seeing their much hated MB cars selling so well :-) But don't you worry MDarringer, in 10 years time, your Hellcats will be worth millions.

This is bad and even as a Merc fan I would have liked BMW to come up with something better. Competition is good and I don't want Benz to rest on its laurels.

The BMW 7-Series is already an also-ran in the luxury segment and has been for the last 15 years.

With this new Hyundai Equus-esque styling, guaranteed cheap interior materials, and BMW's quest to create a large luxury sedan that thinks its a large BMW M3 when most buyers in this class are 50 year-old + men with chauffeurs, the 7-Series will become an even bigger afterthought.

Buyers will naturally gravitate to the class-leading Mercedes-Benz S-class and its bountiful luxury, ample space, comfort and refinement.

Audi is in the process of creating an all-new, ultra-aggressive A8 based on the Prologue Concept.

Better luck next time BMW! (We've only been saying that for the past 15 years)

Waiting to see if the M- Sport version can save the 7 series. I kind of doubt it.

I predict the All New A8 will come out on top of both the S-Class and 7 in both design and tech.

Henanamani1: I doubt it but honestly, I hope you get that right because if MB does not have something against, they will start to rest. This new 7 (in design) is a fail, but let see the technology, that might help them.
