Audi Q7 vs. Mercedes GL Comparison Test

Here is to all those that said BenzInsider was biased. Great review, and I love that the Q7 won. It is a beautiful SUV.

The Q7 was much quicker. By about 2 seconds, eventough the two have the same amount of hosepower. Shows that TDI diesels are the best.

This has nothing to do with the greatness of the Audi TDI engine. The GL weighs considerably more and its engine has to struggle to move the heavy bulk.

It must be the heavy MB diesel as the two are very much the same size. Still the 200 or so pounds of extra weight shouldn't make it TWO seconds slower.

autobild must feel sorry for audi, because the q7 is a ugly SUV.

The Q7 is awesome. Test drove it, it's a LOT more fun to drive than the GL.

The Q7 IS THE BEST handling large SUV right now. It handles just as well as the Cayenne. It looks good as well.

Check the facts. Same grip level as the Cayenne. No lie. It put all other big SUVs to shame in a recent Car and Driver comparison.

The Cayenne isn't exactly a 911 in terms of agility. I drove both the normal V6 (SLOW!!!) and the S (drove like a tank and priced like one too). We're getting a sedan now (RR Sport too heavy, and she doesn't want another Lexus)...

It really is beautiful on the road, unlike any other SUV out there. In the C & D article chewy mentioned, they had it in this amazing light-green color. They kept saying how gorgeous it was, but it's not a truck, more like a big, beautiful sports sedan that's slightly higher and can seat seven. That's good enough for me!

Wait till the new X5 hit's the road...It outdoes every competitor in pretty much every category!

If you look at the comparison test, the GL bests the Q7 in most categories. The only reason the Q7 wins is the cheaper price. There wa story not long ago on Autospies about a guy driving his new Q7 in France and the right wheel just broke off without hitting anuthin he and his family had a horrible accident and none of the airbags worked in the Q7. Just Google Audi Q7 Accident and see for yourself.

I knew Im gonna see this topic even before Autospies main page loaded.... hahaha

As for the comparison, the GL is a lot more off-roader, which makes it less comfortable, less good to drive, the engine is not as good as in the Audi, plus there is also a lot about looks and interior, where i think i can safely say Audi is a bit better.

What I wanna say is Audi is a better overall package than the MB

I thought so as well till i Noticed one on the road, I was so Suprised at how Good it looked and when i looked inside one at the Dealership i was very Impressed, I am yet to drive one so should'nt really comment on handling.

i have test driven both vehicles.
i was thinking of buying the GL or Q7 once my 04 530 lease is up but decided on buying the new X5 once it comes out.
nothing is more fun to drive than a BMW.

I personally love the look of both the Q7 and GL. There's no doubt in my mind that the Q7 is the sportier, but then again, I don't think MB designed the GL with sport in mind either.

Yes, I have seen a few Q7's it looks like a sloppy slab of do-do.

Q7 looks good from the front but in the favour of 3 rows of seats, the Q7 designers have lost there way A LITTLE at the rear.

I am sure if they had gone with 2 rows of seating idea,they would have done better especially at the rear.From C pillars onwards.

But still a good looking SUV,but the new X5 is simply better in almost every department than the new Q7 and GL/ML.

It's too early to tell. Knowing BMW, the X5 will "suck" offroad and get trashed there by the Q7, GL / ML.

Onroad performance will probably be its key strength. One thing I always disliked about the X5 was the BMW was so half-hearted about its offroading ability. I for one do care about that aspect in ANY SUV.

I saw the Q7 in person and they look so much better than the pics.

The ML is the least-quality Mercedes! When we were looking between the RX300 and ML320 back in 1998, there happened to be a fresh ML320 at the Lexus dealer. The guy there just showed us how terribly it was built compared to the Lexus. He bent the hoods of each car; the ML felt like a piece of plastic. The RX didn't budge, however.

i agree with S4cabriofox. what is up with logical? that dudes crazy i tel you. Styling is like perfect! i saw one after school once...wasnt the best first impression in real life( it was black so i couldnt see the details and it was very dirty) but it STILL LOOKED GOOD!!!!
