Lexus Concept Vehicles

These concepts look real nice. But, they are just that...concepts, and thats as far as they're gonna go. Even if they do come out of production, they will look nothin like this. But I do like what I see.

i dont know why lexus makes the concept cars look like spaceships, or even other brands. but which came first, the LS460 or the L-SH

i think it's time for a new design staff. now i know why the production cars looks so bland.

LexusKindaGuy12, the reason Lexus makes their concepts look like futuristic spacships is because they have no heritage like Ford, Mercedes, Jaguar or BMW.

The IS is the best looking Lexus, then I would rank the ES, then GS, LS last.

heck, the delorean still looks way cooler than any of these concepts.

Compare them to Ford/Gm/Dcx who think Future Design = Retro Styling

Lexus Designs are Function First, Fashion Next; as can be attested by their very good Fit & Finish, Superior Reliability, Minimal panel Gaps, Very Low CDs (Drag Coefficient), Great Ergonomics

I would say Audi come in Second in the Futuristic Concept Vehicle Design and Direction, BMW Third and MB holding the last position amongst the German 3

Nah, it's just hard to warm up to these iRobot-y concept vehicles with the slab sides and the yoink lack of personality and the glavin. Sometimes with the future you have to have been there, ya know?

Lexus strong suit is in the here and now at least so far.

Nah, a slabbish design vision isn't necessarily futuristic if you mean visionary. If you mean futuristic like what we see in Hollywood movies, then yes you might be able to say that. (I don't think Bangle would fight you on that point. He's not trying to battle iRobot director Alex Proyas for most future-looking car design.) The Lexus future cars, I give them credit for doing something, but as a whole they lose a tether to reality. Apparently in the future there is a global shortage of right angles. It's all slopes. When something tries to be TOO futurish it starts to look kind of vanilla. It's very Toyota to say, let's be futuristic! Design visionaries dance around the future concept but pull back from falling into the future cliche. Lexus shows the full monty. They look like they're the house brand of the orb-headed dude that Richard Dreyfuss flies off with in Close Encounters. They buy it back by inbuing a bit of reality into their final designs, but I think Audi does a better job at the design-house thing because they're injecting some unsubstantiated personality into their designs. It looks like they have a personal vision of what they want a car to be, while Lexus looks a bit unsure about what their philosophy is, besides "future." Orbs ain't gonna get it done. You have to have a personality, which means you have to stand for something visually, which means you may turn someone off, which means you may not appeal to everyone all of the time, which is where Toyota/Lexus steps back.

Styling is subjective. I don't think Lexus has the best-looking car in ANY class. But that's my opinion, and it doesn't make it so.

what percentage of their product line and upcoming products are retro?....then again, at least they have a rich history of retro to draw from.

don't ever put ford in the same sentence as mb, jag, or bmw. it doesn't belong. not the same cache. not even the same demographics, and never will be.

the thing about mercedes is that 10 years from now all of there cars will still look good and will be classics. You don't look at a 10 year old bmw and say oh thats a classic. they look good for the here and now (well not anymore). Although i love the 6 series. The only lexus i think that is a 10 year classic is the old sc300-400.
