BMW's Next-Gen 7-Series Going To Set An All-New Benchmark In The Large, Luxury Sedan Class?

BMW's Next-Gen 7-Series Going To Set An All-New Benchmark In The Large, Luxury Sedan Class?
One vehicle we're extremely interested in getting better acquainted with is the all-new BMW 7-Series. While it may not be a volume product like the 3-Series of super important X5, it is the company's pride and joy.

Much like the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, the 7'er is used to debut all-new technology that will eventually trickle down into the Bavarians' volume products. While we've seen the all-new 7 fully exposed well in advance of its reveal, we've been keeping our ear to the ground so we could get an idea of the latest impressions. Long story short, the company has been hosting small gatherings for select loyalists of the marque.

It turns out that BMW may have a winner on its hands, if the latest word is to be believed.

Forum users occupying 7post have been posting their initial thoughts from the private reveals and we're getting an interesting mix of results. Obviously, these are BMW faithful, so, you have to factor that into the equation here.

Here are some highlights:

- Front end resembling 3-Series with "3D" front kidney grilles integrated into the headlights
- Read end is "Korean-like" in appearance
- BEST part is its interior — S-Class-like switchgear, Samsung tablet in the rear seats, touchscreen HVAC, MORE cameras
- 25 features that have never been seen in any automobile previously
- Cabin frangrance a la the Mercedes S

Does THIS sound like an all-new benchmark to YOU?

The styling is a sheer let down after the concept sedan wowed us. Thankfully it's not ghetto-bling gaudy like a Mercedes S or Camry bland like an A8.

Definitely ..it does not have what it takes to dethrone the S class as a benchmark in style, but let's wait for the new technologies that it will introduce...It looks like was designed by a Korean company...Kia comes to my mind, hopefully more reliable...(I recommend to Read all the comments of the people that was at the event before comment).

I for one, will have an open mind about it.

When the new S550 came out in 2014, I was all set to get one, but when I drove one, I was annoyed by the jumbo-tron dashboard, I was annoyed by the Buick-like steering wheel, and I didn't really like the "melted-soapbar" styling, so instead I got a CPO 2013 S550 at an excellent price, which I love (big improvement over my 2008 S550).

I think the Audi is ugly, I have another BMW already which I enjoy. If the new 7 is good looking, I'll probably get one.

BMW has never really hit the nail on the head with their Luxury entry - the 7 Series - and that is because it looks like a big 3 series (Not the other way around) - and never really delivers to those looking for a LUXURY car - not a sports sedan. Those are two different markets - while you might be able to call BMW a Premium car maker - you really cannot call them a LUXURY car maker. The Mindset at BMW is on sports cars - and their luxury entrant always misses the mark

TomM: Crystal Clear, that's why Mercedes has problem doing sport cars, because they are a luxury brand, however, MB has been more successful doing sport cars than BMW doing Luxury cars.

Interesting point but, to me, Mercedes has done a couple good sports cars in its day.

Just my two cents...

Is this a joke? The 7-Series has never set the benchmark and never will.

As was said in the other thread about this redesign, it looks way too much like the Hyundai Equus. I would have expected more originality and a more modern sleek look from the 7-series. So the 5-series still is looking good, but BMW has made the 3-series look forgettable, and now the 7-series is looking like a Hyundai.
