If The 2019 Mercedes A-Class Coupe Ends Up Looking Like THIS, Would You Take It Over A TT?

In the year 2011, mr. Benz started making compact cars using a new FWD platform, and he saw that it was good. Eight years later, a coupe arrived!

That's right, Mercedes-Benz is going to make a compact coupe that will rival the Audi TT in 2019, and this is what it could look like. Theophilus Chin created these renderings of what he calls the A-Class Coupe by combining several other concepts, including the GLC Coupe.

We like the outcome. No, we love the result, especially since it's so much more distinctive than the Audi TT.

A few years ago, I looked to Mercedes as the makers of some of the most beautiful cars in the world. Back in the late era of quad round headlights, they created an E-class sedan and an SL roadster that were timeless masterpieces of design. Stately. Elegant. Glamorous. Commanding. I aspired to own them.

Today, it appears to me that Mercedes has changed their path to follow design cues from Asia. The elongated swoopy headlights that we first saw on Hondas (now, almost everyone is doing them). The deep, curved body crease we first saw in Hyundai. Love their designs or not, one thing's for certain: the words stately, elegant, glamorous, and commanding no longer apply when I see a Mercedes.

That's just *my* view on MB styling. Meanwhile, there are others who see them as the greatest thing since sliced bread. To each their own.

Agree with TheSteve, too Hyundai / Infinity looking. Although it is not quite as ungainly as some of those designs lately it is too far in that direction for a Merc. Tone it down a bit, put it into more of a three piece suit look instead of the spandex look.

Agree with Steve. I haven't wanted to buy a Benz since 2006 or so. Is there anyone in the world who is going to say the current SL looks better than a 10 year old one?

I rather like it. Fluidic design is more like progressive elaboration. It takes the fundamentals of design and advances them forward to shapes that not only are very appealing, but the ROI in coefficiency of drag and fuel consumption are additional benefits.

The S, S Coupe, AMG GT, C-Class and even the facelifted E-Class are all gorgeous cars now. Well except for the luxury version of the C and E which have terrible wheels, but you get the point. The SL and CLS were just botched. The ML/GLE just looks old. The GL is hot, and the G is even hotter. The GLA is "cute" to me as is the CLA, but they don't look anything like a Mercedes traditionally does.
