STUD OR DUD? First Promo Images Of The 2016 Camaro Spew Out On The Web
Tomorrow is the big day for pony car fans across the nation as Chevrolet drops the covers on the all new 2016 Camaro in Detroit, and you can tell by the images below that they haven't strayed too far from the latest iteration.

But then again why would you?  While the new Mustang is currently outselling the Camaro by a good margin, but that pace will settle down soon enough, and we would expect the Camaro to take off like gangbusters once it hits the showroom.

The true test will actually be about a year after the Camaro is released and if it can maintain the pace against the Mustang.

Look at the shots below leaked from CNBC and let us know if the new Camaro is a stud or dud and just how well will it stack up against the Mustang in the long term.

Dudd...every generation of the Camaro gets more mainstream and looses its uniqueness. Taillights are boring and the spoiler needs to go back to the 90s.

Yeah it's not nearly as attractive as a sports car ought to be. Very uninspired. Not that we didn't already know this.

The Camaro is neither a Stud or a Dud - as far as what it looks like. GM took the same line it did with its trucks - and did not change the looks that much - which is a mistake - one that they will no doubt have to fix in the refresh in three years.

But I predict that the car will be so well executed as a sports car - that it will leave the competition in the dust. Now - and ahead of time - how about a four door version of the car too?

Will need to see it in person; not bad but I don't like a "rounded" hood (near front) on any sports car. That reminds me of a 4 door sedan when they do that.

I agree - the rounded hood looks very strange...

And the rear quarter windows look totally wrong. They have such a rich history to pull on and morph to this century but they are ignoring it, while Ford is doing a pretty darn good job of putting a new frame on the Mustang picture.

Very interesting. It looks like an improvement over the old one for sure. Now, if they just fix the interior too because that was perhaps the worst thing about the Camaro!

Always get's dicey when you try to update a retro design. I prefer the current model.

Grille reminds me of the Camry. Not bad looking, but not bold, inspiring, or pretty. Could have been better.

Its great looking and it'll be a terrific hit. Styling is fine, evolutionary not revolutionary. The one that follows this will probably go to another level and be more revolutionary. Looking forward to seeing it on the road...

It looks like a cleaned up version of the first generation car. I think the Mustang is better looking. However I've heard the V6 version being put through it's paces. The 330HP 3.6 liter sounds very nice. The car promises to have excellent handling and performance due to it's lighter weight. I do think Mustang needs to do the following:
1) Loose 100 LBS all models.
2) Have some of the Shelby suspension DNA move down to the base models.
3) Increase the HP of the base V6, Eco boost 4 and V8 by 10%.315HP for the base V6, 330HP for the ecoboost, 450HP for the V8.

They should have made it look more like a 4 seater corvette. Sick and tired of the "Retro" look..

The first generation New Camaro handily overtook the Mustang - so the question is - whether a cleaned version of that same STYLING - something that BMW and AUDI have been doing for DECADES - will be able to do the same. I suggest that the current situation with the Mustang on top is only temporary - people are waiting for the new Camaro. There remains something about seeing these cars in person that pictures simply do not convey well.

I think it will sell a lot of Mustangs. Something about this design and even the recent years just doesn't look right.

I don't really think people switch back and forth between Mustangs and Camaros. People who buy these cars are already die-hard fans of either Mustang or Camaro, and only buy one brand.
