2016 Camaro Vs 2015 Mustang - Which One Has The Upper Hand Now?

2016 Camaro Vs 2015 Mustang - Which One Has The Upper Hand Now?

The Chevrolet Camaro-Ford Mustang rivalry and sales race is about to heat up again.

Chevrolet has pulled the covers off the redesigned 2016 Camaro scheduled to arrive this fall. The new Camaro, rebuilt from the wheels up and now riding on the same underpinnings as the Cadillac ATS sport sedan, will face the red-hot Mustang, which was redesigned last year and is getting more enhancements for 2016.

The 2016 Camaro is the first since the mid-1980s to offer a four-cylinder engine.

Here’s how the two pony cars -- the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro and 2015 Ford Mustang --

based on looks alone, the mustang.

I like this new gen Camaro better than the Mustang. Of course, neither of these vehicles would be a practical purchase for me...but if I had to pick one, it would now be the Camaro.

It would be nice if when putting these comparisons up you would put pictures of both cars. Side shot Camaro, side shot Mustang, front Camaro front Mustang etc... For me the GT350 is king!

First off. I'm glad that these two companies are in a real pissing match. This is nothing but great times for pony car enthusiasts.

So far I think Mustang has the better styling. To me, Chevy has tamed the looks of the Camaro. The Stang looks just that little bit and more angry and wild.

It's hard but I'm going to pick the new Camaro the blue version fully loaded. Not crazy about the lower trim front bumper. GM put really attractive muscle on this car. The lines are not too much and not too little just right. THIS IS ONE HELL OF A DESIGN!!!

Both are very good looking. The Mustang still appears to have a better greenhouse and easier to see out of. The current Camaro through 2015 I previously complained was difficult to see out of especially from the rear. This new 2016 model appears even worse on this front. Saying that the interior of the 2016 Camaro, I think, brings it up to parity with the 2015 Mustang. The pictures show a radical improvement. Further the V6 is the mid line model, not the base model as it is in the Mustang. If you don't go for the SS your not getting short changed on performance and engine noise. The video and audio from a couple of sights showing the car being driven around the race track play a really nice sounding engine. If this thing weighs in at 3,500 LBS, then the V6 Camaro should out perform an Ecoboost Mustang as the Stang weighs more. The base 2.0 probably does not sound as good but should perform close to the V6 Mustang. The V8 SS should also outperform the Mustang GT due to it's lighter weight and more torque than the Stang. Ford needs to up their game a little if they want to remain competitive. Specifically 1) A 100LB weight reduction on all current models.2)A slight bump in Horsepower on all 3 models.3) Some suspension goodies should trickle down from the GT350 to the GT, Ecoboost and Base V6 models. The Mustang is a good coupe but the Camaro has now upped the game.

The Mustang GT looks great but it has received mostly lukewarm reviews. The new Camaro is built on the expensive and sophisticated Alpha platform so it's almost certainly going to be the better driver. In the end it probably boils down to styling and that's purely subjective. I give a slight nod to the new Camaro.

Really? Almost every review I've read of the 1015 Mustang have been glowingly positive. Many saying it's the best Mustang ever. The proof will be at the track, though. Can't wait for the many battles ahead for these two great cars.

But 1015 is so yesterday! Even my mustang back then got good reviews from various Knights on the ride to Constantinople (what a city, ended up skipping the rest of the trip and partying there for a couple years!). But man that mustang could really handle the rough roads that were the standard back in the day while still being excellent transport in the city, especially a big city like that. I also got really good mileage out of him. A few apples and an evening grazing and he was good for another 10hrs. Also I don't remember anyone riding a Camaro? I will check with my old buddies see if any of them remember a Camaro on the trip? Maybe a Camel??

Don't forget the solid rear axles of 1015. This is no longer and issue.

I think the Camaro(for the moment) does have the upper hand in terms of straight line performance and handling. I'm guessing a bit of course but there are certain elements that lead me to believe it. 1) It is built on the ATS platform which is not only reasonably light it has also gotten rave reviews for steering and handling.2)Assuming the Camaro SS and GT weigh about the same The SS should be quicker due to it having 55 extra LBS of torque.3)The test drives of the prototypes were pitted against a 2015 Camaro Z28. The journalists responses were that the 2016 felt more agile(and those were with the V6 engine!). Motortrend recently pitted the 2015 Camaro ILE against a Mustang GT with the track pack. 0-60 times were almost dead even with Camaro decidedly better around the Streets Of Willow track. It also put up better skid pad # and slalom numbers. Based on this one would have to think that the 2015 Mustang would be in 2nd place in handling and 2nd place in straight line performance when you bring in the V8 Challenger.
But as they say competition improves the breed. It will be interesting to see what Ford does to the 2017 Mustang for improvements.

Given that the Camaro looks like a Mustang...victory: Mustang.

Interior goes to Camaro hands down

I have to disagree. Both interiors show improved quality. Mustang definitely has a more retro look to it though. Further I would have to say that Gen 6 Camaro looks nothing like a Mustang. It does look like the 68 Gen though. Though Camaro maybe more driver focused than the Mustang I still think the Mustang is more livable day to day in terms of ownership.
