LEAKED! Pricing Of The All-New Ford Shelby GT350 Mustang Starts BELOW $50K! GT350R BELOW $65K! BMW M4, No More?
I know it seems that this question seems to pop up a lot. I am not sorry about it, though because this is a very, very good question. Of course this is assuming that you're not a brand snob and simply want the best driving experience above all else.

Pricing for the all-new Shelby GT350 and GT350R have leaked online and it has been confirmed by Ford itself that the prices seen are accurate. This means, somehow, Ford has done the unthinkable and will deliver a 500 horsepower V8 Mustang for less than $50,000. And, the even more hardcore GT350R variant will start at under $65,000.

For those of you keeping track, the benchmark at the moment, the BMW M4 bases at around $64,000. While the standard GT350 may be the deal of the century, the R is extremely compelling.

Considering how far the Mustang has come, especially when you think about the last-gen Boss 302 model, Ford may have just one upped the Germans. Of course we'll have to wait and see once we get behind the wheel, but on paper this is sounding incredibly compelling to us.

Having said that, we want to open the discussion to the AutoSpies faithful. Do the all-new Shelby GT350 and GT350R rethinking snapping up an M4? Is the M4 too good to pass up?

I really want the GT350 to be a great performance car but also a decent all rounder. That is one thing that has made the M series successful is that ability to play hard but then take the spouse & friends up town for dinner. Of course the M4 & GT350 being coupes... forget the friends part. The R will be great for track fanatics and those who value that last iota of performance over all else, but if they make the standard GT350 sufficiently luxurious and retain 98% of that performance it could be a natural competitor to the M4. I think Ford should make a 4 door GT350 Mustang as well...any design wizards?

sorry but a four door Mustang, would not be a Mustang. If Ford wants to work that magic and create a Focus SVT or Fusion SVT, great, but it wouldn't be called "Mustang", just like Chevy doesn't build Camaro or Corvette sedans.

I have a hard time picturing someone who's a serious BMW M enthusiast thinking of a Mustang as an alternative.

As wonderful as this car might be (for some folks), it's quite different from a BMW M4.

The Steve is completely correct. Very few Mustang dudes will be shopping at the BMW dealership. They will be at Ford saying how they can't wait to out run a BMW. The BMW guys will be telling us how refined their M cars are and about the M heritage and what not.

That's why I noted driving experience above all else.

Brand snobs will be brand snobs, but I have hope there are people that aren't just smelling their own farts.

@Tauron

Some of the discussion on the Ford Board already is saying they've stopped thinking about ordering M4's, so, that's not entirely true.

'00R: people say lots of things, especially on Internet forums. That would include people who were nowhere close to getting an M4 saying they snubbed it for a Mustang.

I'm sure that somewhere, there are those who were genuinely serious about buying an M4 and decided instead on a Mustang. I just believe they're exceptionally rare.

Could be. I like all interesting cars, don't really care where they come from. I have owned 2 old school muscle cars, two Japanese sports cars, two US SUVs, one German and one British SUV (currently have), three German sports cars... Man I am old... In any case if the GT350 is a rival for the M4 in everything but the badge I would probably give it a try. And contrary to what others think a 4 door mustang would be pretty cool. Everyone would whine for a few minutes like they did with the Cayenne and the X5 but they would get over it and buy one the next day if it was truly a quality car at a good price.

@00R ..lsounds good but they are most likely just talking. The Ford board dudes were blowing smoke and you drank the kool aid. They just wrote it they didn't mean it.

Sorry but two different cars.

Mustang drivers will want to race everything from the stop light, from Camaros and Challengers to M4s

M4 drivers will only -and very underhandedly- turn their heads for their German likes. Call it obnoxious but it is the truth.

Me? I can't wait to see the new Camaro in person

Not a brand snob. Judging solely by pictures here; I would take the GT350 over the M4.

as someone whos had 3 m'3s, i cant blame anyone for wanting a mustang as ive had mustangs as my rentals and thought they are great cars, but if you want a total package and you have extra money to spare, youll go for the m4. otherwise, the mustang, camaro, sti are all great alternatives to an M4 just like the M4 is a good alternative to a base 911.
