Your numbers are pretty close to what I've heard, so I suspect yours are more accurate.

Issues with this predicament:

(1) It's way too late to custom order a 2015. The cut-off date for that was back in February.

(2) Audi dealers don't have any info on their new 2016 models. They can't give you the specs, feature lists, options, prices, or pictures. In the case of a completely revised model, like the Q7, it's a completely different product than the current model.

(3) With a completely new model of vehicle come the same issues as with a "point oh" (e.g., 2.0) release of computer software. The "point oh" is short for "oh my god :-(". That's when you pay to be a guinea pig for the manufacturer and discover and report their first year bugs and teething pains. With some models, like the Q5, it's unclear if the 2016 model will be the same as the 2015, or the totally revised model that's coming down the pipe. Also know that sometime soon, Q5 production will shift from the factory in Ingolstadt, Germany, to a new plant in Mexico. You might want to wait until the new workers and plant get settled in, and they develop a "same as (or better than) the Germans" reputation.

All these uncertainties motivated me to put in my order last February, and take delivery recently. I'd rather have the best of a pool of knowns than risk losing that for the hope of something equal or better.

Can you explain the chart? It seems to me that the Q7's will be here in Jan 2016? That's a long time.

I was driving around the NY/CT burbs this weekend and I was on I-95 by Stratford, CT and I saw a new Audi Q7 with "manufacturer" tags on it. We were all stuck in traffic so I got a long, really good, look at it. The Q7 is not a handsome auto - looks very blocky from the rear and it looks cheap and tiny from the front. The Q7 front end looks very much like a Ford Taurus/Edge - the trapezoidal grills must be the same size.

Then, I saw one new XC90 in Westport, CT in front of the Volvo dealership (gorgeous) and then I saw another new one in Rye, NY driving around with "temporary" tags. Its really a beautiful car - nice work Volvo!

I'll be curious to see how the Q7 does against the Volvo XC90. The XC90 is the hands-down winner, appearance-wise, versus the new Q7 in my opinion.

Interesting comments.

First off there's always MFR-plated cars roaming as Audi may have shipped some over for press/marketing purposes or dealer training. Near where I live there's an east coast training center and there's always stuff here that's WAY out from actually arriving on our shores.

Second, we have been pointing out the all-new Volvo XC90 versus the all-new Audi Q7 since they both appeared at Detroit together. Design is always a subjective thing, but to me I really like what Volvo did with the all-new XC90.

Yes, I think I would move the intro time table up to before Thanksgiving...perfect timing for buying a station wagon to go over the river and through the woods to Grandmother's house.
