DRAG RACE! What Happens When An All-New BMW X5M Goes Head-To-Head With A Chevrolet Corvette ZR1?
Having recently been behind the wheel of the all-new BMW X5M, I have to say that it is one seriously fast sport-utility vehicle. Also keep in mind that the X5 is not a small SUV by any means. This thing is HUGE.

BUT, can it take on a Chevrolet Corvette ZR1?

That's a mighty tall hill to climb. After all, the C6 ZR1 is a purpose-built sports car with carbon fiber bits, over 600 horsepower at its disposal and a huge weight advantage. Seems like, on paper, it should be a HUGE win for the 'Vette. Keep in mind this assumes the C6 driver utilizes launch control and doesn't screw up their shifting.

The BMW benefits from all-wheel drive, launch control and some staggeringly fast shifts via the X5M's transmission. Oh, and don't forget the low-down torque thanks to the turbos.

So, who wins? I'll let you find out...

**Please note: the X5M is listed as an Evotech — who knows what mods it may have, they're not listed

My vehicle and I spend all our time on public roads. We've never been clocked on a drag strip. We've never done The Ring. I don't race people at lights. I don't do burnouts, I don't smoke my tires.

I mention this to highlight that an X5 vs 'Vette drag race isn't relevant to me, or to most drivers. Mind you, to someone who buys a vehicle in the hope of buying some "street cred," this might be a big deal.

Steve's thought for they day: Get what inspires you and what you can afford. Be happy with your decision. Enjoy! What other people think of you, and what they do, is not your business.

Interesting results.. I would have thought the Vette would have been a tad slower off the line but should have caught up quick… Agree with the Steve as far as getting what inspires you etc… but I still like motor sports and have participated in number of different types of motorcycle and car racing including some drag races eons ago at a track in TX called Green Valley between Dallas and Ft Worth… I think there are some McMansions there now. Just sold my 70 Vette and have a RR Evoque which has impressed me with the quality overall and quite entertaining off road abilities… although not as capable as the Discovery or bigger RRs it will certainly go a lot further than most of it's peers…although most of its peers are probably not purchased to go off road either. Right size, really nice handling (can remind me of a hot hatch at times with the perf mode on), good mileage, quality interior, good looking exterior to my eyes and good build (so far). A long way from a 70 Z/28 at Green Valley...
