Can ANYONE Explain Why People Are STILL MESMERIZED By The Tesla Model S?
As an automaker, it's been remarkable to see Tesla come to the market and make a splash. While its initial car, the Roadster, was far from a success and a halo product, the Model S sedan really brought the manufacturer into the fore.

After receiving some mixed reviews and even a couple bad ones, a slew of accolades were handed down. Hell, the Model S even got the highest scores of any product to be tested at Consumer Reports. While its door handles have received criticism in the past couple of months, it seems that consumer interest still remains strong.

Can you say that about the Porsche Panamera or Mercedes-Benz S-Class? I don't think so.

If I had to list a car that folks inquire about most frequently, the Model S would be easily holding the number one spot. At the local mall the Model S is typically swamped and Agent 001 reports the same thing on the west coast.

So, we've got to ask: WHAT is it about the Tesla Model S that STILL has people MESMERIZED?

Is it the screen in the center stack? Is it the electric, plug-in technology? Is it Elon Musk's story? Is it the perceived future of the automobile?

I think it's a little of everything. For me, yes it is the future.

It has incredible performance, while operating costs per mile is quite low. My state is almost 100% hydro-electric or nuke power, so no fossil fuels are necessary. Easy recharging at home, with enough range to do almost anything other than a long road trip without "refueling". It looks good, and once the lower cost model is available the price won't be too high.

I am curious to which state you are in. I am in the energy sector and with all the regulation for nukes, hydro-electric and wind power not performing as promised and with oil prices this low, fossil plants (gas turbines) are making a comeback in a hurry. More mega-watts for less money;)

Washington. There's only one coal burning power plant in the whole state, and it will be shut down (I believe) by 2020. Everything else is supposedly hydro or nuke.

@atc98092 beautiful state but don't fall for their propaganda. The state has many combine cycle plants (gas and steam) burning natural gas (fossil fuel). At the moment, besides nuclear energy, it's the cleanest and cheapest way to generate energy.

Leftrist progressive LOONS.
The car is powered by COAL fired power plants. But don't tell lame brain liberals that because they have a mental block against truth.

It is simply new technology - When the first Litton Microwave ovens came out - everyone wanted to see one. They were expensive for a counter top oven - but even at a high price - they sold all they could make at the time - and they did not even have the features of a $60 one from today.

The S is a god looking vehicle - and its range actually makes it a viable option for those living in urban areas - and it is Exclusive because of the price. The problem will be when there are competitors - especially cheaper ones.

The microwave oven is no longer a status symbol now that almost anyone can buy one. I suggest that a Chevy Volt - with a 100 mile range would have changed the dynamics of the market and the S would have slowly ebbed off.

I think it's because they mistake it for a bigger Ford Fusion.

Um, because they like super-fast, one-speed golf carts that give no aural driving experience whatsoever?

I'm not a liberal, yet I'm capable of understanding that even if the power is coming from 100% coal, it is still using far less resources than gas.

Also, are you freaking serious regarding tax dollars? Do you have any idea how many tens of billions in tax incentives we give to oil companies each year?

Okay now that those 2 items are out of the way, why people are still interested?
- Amazing acceleration and handling
- Zero response lag at any speed
- Best infotainment system on any car period
- Two trunks, seating up to 7
- Convenience of never having to go to a gas station again and getting to wake up with a full tank every day
- Best service ever - (To service the car they drop off a $100k loaner at your home or work and take your car to be serviced)
- No sleazy sales people to deal with, each car effectively built to order

1st off...the majority of the population probably hasn't seen an "actual" (in-the-metal) Tesla on the road before. The average public perception of an EV is that it's slow, awkward & easy to identify in most any traffic. The Model S is a wide, low sporty sedan than quietly slips through traffic. The exterior design is simple yet reflective of a luxury brand. Depending on the driver, it's very unassuming & can easily "blend in". But if the driver is in a hurry, that car can definitely "fly"! A neighbor owns a Model S & the Tesla coupe - very nice car.

We people see a Model S - like at an open outdoor shopping center - the quiet muscle is very surprising b/c the EV is whisper quiet where most people expect to hear or feel the rumble of a V8 or V12. Cool.
