At Only $65K How Long Will It Take For The Alfa Romeo 4C Spider To Become a Sell Out?
Pricing for the 2015 Alfa Romeo 4C Spider will start at $65,495, with U.S. sales of the hand-built convertible expected to begin in August, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles said today.

It will be the second Alfa Romeo model introduced in the U.S. after the 4C coupe marked the brand’s return in 2014.

The 4C coupe and 4C Spider are assembled in Modena, Italy, and combined 2015 output is expected to total just 2,500 vehicles. North American sales of the two models are forecast at 800 to 1,000 vehicles this year.

Do a lot of Americans even know about Alfa Romeos?

Bingo. Few do and those that do think Alfa Romeos are unreliable garbage. If the 4C had been priced from $30-45K then it would have been exactly what Alfa Romeo needed to reintroduce itself to the US market. Instead, Marchionne put out a stupid bauble. Up close, the 4C is rather crude in the details and there are simply to many other vehicles out there that are better for the price (or less). I'm not a Porsche fan, but a Cayman is definitely more worth its price than this.

I agree with MDarringer about this, at $65K, is priced too high. Is it me or are there aspiring car mfrs pricing their product to what they ASPIRE to be instead of where the brand ACTUALLY resides? EG Cadillac, Acura and VW seem to think they punch above their weight.

If this car didn't feature a carbon fiber monocoque, I'd agree with you guys that this is priced too high. But it does feature carbon fiber construction. If anything, it's a bargain in the $60s. Name one other car with carbon monocoque construction — aside from the BMW i3 — that's doing it for less than $100,000.

@Agent00R carbon fiber construction was a dumb move. Yeah it shows use of technoiogy, but Alfa Romeo needs products that sell in volume and a conventional, affordable, mid-engined sportster for $35K would have been the ticket followed by the Alfa Miata for a 1-2 punch.

I don't disagree with you, but there's more than one strategy for entering an all-new automotive market.

Maybe the company is trying the halo method where the 8C sold in extremely limited numbers, now the 4C's here and appealing to niche buyers and soon the rumored sport sedan will appear for the masses and take on the BMW M3 — like everyone else. From there, perhaps we'll see mainstream products.

It will be a guaranteed future collector's item. Alfa should be easily able to sell them all.

I'm sure people dished on the Ferrari Dino in the early 70's - it was the "Fiat Ferrari" remember? 20 years from now, this Alfa will be money in the bank.
