OFFICIAL: Pricing For The 2016 BMW 7-Series Starts At...
Last week marked the complete unveil of the 2016 BMW 7-Series. In a super competitive large luxury sedan market, it's a BIG deal that BMW innovates with this car.

Although there's been quite a bit of skepticism on the final product, Agent 001 who was in Munich at BMW HQ for the reveal, reassures me that the all-new 7 is something to behold in real life. And, the best proof of that can be seen in 001's real-life pictures.

For me, it changed my opinion COMPLETELY.

While the pictures told a greater story, we have to get down to brass tacks. So, how much is the all-new 7-Series going to cost? This is the price break down:

- BMW 740i = $81,300*
- BMW 750i = $94,400*
- BMW 750i xDrive = $97,400*

Price wise, this should give a big fight to the S class.....

Maybe in Europe - but not elsewhere

The BMW looks like every other BMW - has nothing much to distinguish it from the 3 series(which is their roots) and Just like AUDI - which makes the same mistake - BMW is considered a small premium sports sedan company in most areas. All those electronic gadgets seem nice - but most owners will never figure out how to use them - or car to.

Mercedes - on the other hand - has the Physical Presence of a true Luxury car - which is THEIR roots - and the BMW would have had to hit a grand slam to even come close - and it has maybe a two base hit. As long as Audi and BMW continue to make their large cars so much like their small ones - they will continue to lose market.

The difference in price only matters to those who really cannot afford a car in these ranges.

This pricing strategy I believe will hurt BMW. Not only is this new 7-Series not enough of a forward step over the current generation, but now the price puts it at exactly the same price as the S-Class here in the U.S.

The 7-Series used to cost slightly less than the S-Class but now it will cost as much or more but will not offer the same cache and reputation as the vaunted S-Class.

This is a horrible pricing strategy.

The new 7 is going to do very well. The conquests will be (a) Porsche Cayenne owners and (b) Audi A8 buyers (or at least those under the age of 60) and (c) Tesla Model S owners (for whom the novelty of their Tesla has worn off) and (d) Mercedes S550 owners who are under the age of 60 (the New S is the official vehicle of wealthy retirees who love the Buick steering wheel and large-font digital readouts).

Any male 50 or younger who wants a car in this class will purchase the 7-series. Bet on it.

TomM: I got your point, but is a mix of your point and the point of GermanNut. The 7 start at 81k and the S at 94k, so you might me right based on the fact that in my country the customers that can not afford and MB, buy BMWs AUDIs Cadillacs or Lexus. Yes the new 7 is more expensive that before but still a lot cheaper than the S that can reach beyond 200k. Yes BMW is gaining market share with the cheap cars (3/4) but 7 is always behind S in sales. And yes most of the luxury buyers value the MB brand as a Luxury car even if the BMW have the same price. Mre30: A lot of young people prefer the luxury and the power of S over the 7 just because the "feel" that the MB is more exclusive...and you can say anything but thats the fact, like it or not.
