The Best Porsche Print Ad EVER! What Car Did You Dream About Some Day Owning?

The Best Porsche Print Ad EVER! What Car Did You Dream About Some Day Owning?
It does your soul good to flip through old magazines from time to time on a summer afternoon.  How often do you get to reflect on the cars that caught your attention back in the day and sparked your enthusiasm? Granted, the supercars of my high school days might get outrun by the average minivan today, but they did successfully light a fire that has lasted a lifetime.

With that said, I ran across possibly the best Porsche print ad ever and it made me think.  What car did you dream about in your teens and how did it shape your view of what a fantasy car is?

When I was in my teens the oil embargo was in full swing and British, Italian, and Japanese sports cars were the only real option if you wanted fun, reasonable mileage, and still be affordable.

My dream car at the time was a Jensen Healy with a Lotus 2.0 liter four cylinder.  It was one of the last cars to still run on leaded gas (a BIG deal back then) and the 0-60 time of  around 8 seconds. It simply ran rings around the best the Italians and Japanese could offer at the time.

Yes compared to today it is pretty lame but it did the trick back then and I still remember it fondly.

So now it is your time, what car did you grow up dreaming about ?

In my teens - we did not think about street cars as much as we did race cars in my area (I still live near Englishtown NJ) so a Porsche was not even on the radar. However - in my 20's I owned a 450SEL 6.9. It was expensive - even worse to repair - but when it ran well - it was the Ultimate for me. Never had anything that was quite as good as that car since.

Honestly, some kids did dream about an Eclipse, or a 3000GT, or an Evo, or a Z or a Skyline/GT-R.

But then again, apparently there are other kids that still dream of beetles... :p

I was born in 1980. In the 80s, it was a Countach (before the anniversary edition). In the early 90s, the first gen Viper jumped on my radar.

TVR Tasmin
TVR Griffith
Jensen Interceptor
Triumph TR6
Porsche 914-6
68 Shelby Mustang GT500KR
67 Stingray 427

I liked vintage...cars of the 80s and even 90s didn't get my attention much.

At age 7, it was the Lotus Esprit turbo after one passed us on the highway

Then I matured into the DB5 and 246GTB in my early teens thanks to a TV show

Finally, the 930/935 and Countach in my later teens

I still plan on owning all of them and even got a chance to ride in a 1985 Turbo Ruf two nights ago in Osaka.... Wow! Now more than ever...
