Ford dropping 600 dealerships

Ford dropping 600 dealerships
is well known that one of Ford's biggest problems on the consumer front is a bloated dealer network that saps resources from the mothership. In an effort to streamline things on the street, Ford is trying to eliminate at least 600 dealerships throughout the country.

Much of the issue centers on too many dealers in condensed, urban areas, which have the tendency of creating unnecessary competition and, in turn, drive prices south. The plan is for larger, more affluent dealers to "buy out" their smaller, less profitable counter parts, bring the dealer network down to manageable levels.

According to some dealers, Ford has offered on-the-block dealers as much as $300,000 to alleviate the pain of being bought out by their competition. One dealer, quoted in Automotive News, called the offers "chicken feed," saying that a sum that small would do little to persuade owners that have invested several times more in upgrades and equipment over the years.

Currently, Ford insists that dealers who close their doors do so of their own free will, however, if things continue to slide downhill at the Blue Oval's headquarters, voluntary closures may quickly become a thing of the past.

they need to prob elimenate more than 600 dealers. its bad that every dealership of ford usually has 3-4 brands with it. ex. ford-lincoln-mercury or landrover-jaguar-mercury etc so if u were looking for a lincoln you could find one at prob 5 or the 10 local ford dealerships. where as if they limited one dealer to one make then the churn would be much less as well as price gouging would be elimenated.

Poor Ford. If only they made better vehicles, then they would sell much better.

I feel for Ford. I really do. I hate GM right now (except for Cadillac and the superfluous Corvette Z06), but Ford can be brought back up to Chrysler-level in my book if they try hard enough.

They need refreshing products. The new 'Stang was a nice turn, and it's been selling like crazy. But they need to put the bling factor on their bread-and-butter cars-- the obvious goal is the 300C. It's adored by family people and rappers alike. Employing style, practicality, performance and an extra dose of style, the 300C is a smart choice. Ford should do something like it- maybe a Crown Vic replacement?

If ford added $100 worth of interior appointments to every car (and added standard ESP and side airbags), they would compete much, Much better. If Ford added $100 to the dash, center console, and doors (interior part) of the mustang, it would so much sweeter of a car. Also Ford needs to get rid of that damn 4.0L V6, the 3.0V6 is a newer, more effeicient, more peak hp engine.

One in my area closed several weeks ago. I am not sure if it was part of the downsizing or an unrelated closing.
