The all-new Jaguar XE is a perplexing car, if I am honest. I've had the chance to see it a couple of times in the flesh and I have to say that the jury is still out on this thing.

At first glance the outside isn't particularly stunning. It looks much better in the sporting spec but aside from that it's rather...bland. And, on the inside I haven't been blown away by the interior. Its rear seats are awfully tight and the plastics are suspect. One redeeming quality is the all-new infotainment system that looks quite good but we haven't had a chance to play with it as it was only seen in demo mode.

So, what is there to get juiced up about? Is there anything that has this car taking down the likes of the BMW 3-Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class?

Well, there may be.

If you listen to the clip below, you'll see an all-new XE S getting worked up. If I am honest, it sounds quite good. There's no surprise there given that it's fitted with Jaguar Land Rover's 3.0-liter V6 that's been supercharged. While I won't go as far as to say it sounds as magnificent as the six in the F-Type, the engineers clearly tuned this to stand out from the crowd.

Having said that, I must turn to the Spies: IF the all-new Jaguar XE has a MEGA exhaust note, but no one is around to hear it, will it make a sound?

I have filmed an all new 2015 Jaguar XE S finished Italian Racing Red. Video includes first the Jag 3.0 litre supercharged V6 starting up, then doing tons of revs, accelerations and fly bys on a closed course.

I have to say although I have not seen one in the flesh yet, the design is growing on me in videos/photos. It has a few really positive things going for it 1) it is not German but it is European. 2) it has a rear wheel drive developed chassis. 3) definitely the sound and 4) all the other competitors are fairly conservatively designed as well.

Jag could do well with this car of they price it right, dealer support is good and they keep improving their quality which has already made major improvements over the last 2-3 years.

I have to say, I am liking this car's design in XE S form.

I love the understated sporty design, but the interior is a deal breaker for me.

The interior from a space perspective and quality perspective is a big concern for me and should be for JLR.

I like the exterior design of this Jag, and the performance and sound is up there with the best, not so sure about the interior though. I could see myself buying this over the 3 series, but I still think the C450 AMG sport is the one to get now, in this segment. The Mercedes interior is way ahead of the other players in the segment.

Agreed! C450 is the one to have.

i think id still favor the 340i over the jag and benz. ( not in looks though)
